The talent migration into climate remains an underlying theme for us to monitor and gain insights. A recent article from Cliff Krauss in The New York Times highlights the growing trend of professionals from fossil fuel companies transitioning to renewable energy industries. As oil and gas companies continue to cut jobs and maintain tight budgets, renewable businesses are expanding and hiring skilled workers from the likes of Exxon and Chevron.
 
ICYMI, the oil and gas industry experienced a 20% decline in employment over the last six years, while wind energy employment alone grew by nearly 20% from 2016 to 2021! So, scaling up climate spend to $7-10 trillion per year requires major growth of labor pools. Some labor pools will be addressed with technology, while others will be built through new business models.
 
Renewable energy founders, including those in the VoLo Earth Ventures portfolio, are bridging the pay gap with fossil fuel industries and providing more stable employment opportunities. It's clear that the transition to green energy is not only benefiting the environment but also creating a more sustainable job market for professionals in the energy sector. That’s a win-win all around in our view.
