POSEIDONA is removing invasive algae from oceans and turning it into food

We are delighted to share our investment in POSEIDONA a Barcelona-based developer of sustainable food technology, which uses that invasive seaweed and algal side-streams — the waste that agricultural producers generate — to make proteins. In this case, it’s a soy protein alternative.

POSEIDONA 's goal is to be able to use a variety of macroalgae species, using our proprietary methodology, to develop great proteins at an affordable cost that will be able to compete with the mainstream plant-based proteins of soy and pea protein, that currently have no competition at all,. They’ll ultimately be able to be in cost parity with soy protein.

Helping to move the R&D along is a pre-seed funding round of €1.1 million ($1.19 million), led by Faber, one of Europe’s leading venture capital funds specialized in climate tech and the blue economy. The round also includes Dozen Investments , Sprout & About Ventures, ProVeg New Food Hub and WA4STEAM (Women Angels for STEAM).

Proposals to improve the Spanish Startup Law ⚡️

Did you know that only 2% of #venturecapital funds are allocated to #femalefounders?.

Did you know that business angels 👼 groups are one of the usual ways for women to start investing in #startups?.

More #womeninvestors impact the level of funding allocated to #femaleentrepreneurs.

Business angels groups and crowdfundings facilitate investing by allowing to pool funds and promoting collective knowledge and analysis, hence mitigating the inherent risks of early stage investments.  

During a session held at the Spanish House of Representatives, Congreso de los Diputados, WA4STEAM  made 4 proposals to foster BA groups and bring diversity to the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The current law discriminates small savers, that pool their funds to invest in entrepreneurs, against individual large investors that receive a more beneficial tax treatment. 

WA4STEAM that small savers pooling their funds should receive the same fiscal treatment.

#Wa4steam is an all women business angels association with the objective to increase the number of women investing in seed and pre seed startups by democratizing business angels investing that invest exclusively  in female founders in STEAM.
