The Freight segment manufactures and services components for new and existing freight cars and locomotives; builds new commuter locomotives; rebuilds freight locomotives; supplies railway electronics, positive train control equipment, signal design, and engineering services; and provides related heat exchange and cooling systems. It serves publicly traded railroads; leasing companies; manufacturers of original equipment, including locomotives and freight cars; and utilities. The Transit segment manufactures and services components for new and existing passenger transit vehicles, such as regional trains, high speed trains, subway cars, light-rail vehicles, and buses; refurbishes subway cars; and provides heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, as well as doors for buses and subways. This segment serves public transit authorities and municipalities, leasing companies, and manufacturers of subway cars and buses. It also provides electronically controlled pneumatic braking products; railway electronics; freight car trucks; draft gears, couplers, and slack adjusters; air compressors and dryers; heat exchangers and cooling products; and track and switch products. In addition, the company offers railway braking equipment and related components; friction products; new switcher locomotives; transit locomotive and car overhaul services; and freight locomotive overhaul, modernizations, and refurbishment services. Further, it provides platform screen doors; pantographs; window assemblies; couplers; accessibility lifts and ramps for buses and subway cars; and traction motors. The company was founded in 1869 and is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Last week, our team in Contagem inaugurated “DOJO”, a revolutionary space designed for simulating dangerous factory scenarios using practical and audiovisual methods. The interactive and dynamic environment trains employees on essential safety concepts, precautions, risks, rules, and more related to key operational hazards.

The concept and name are inspired by Japanese culture, where #DOJO, often associated with martial arts, represents a "Place for Training" and a "Path to Learning," emphasizing organization and discipline. "DO" signifies the path, and "JO" denotes learning.

Gina Trombley, Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing and Chief Commercial Officer – Americas at Wabtec, and a standout athlete in basketball, volleyball and track and field at Mercer High School, in Pennsylvania, was recently named to the Mercer County Hall of Fame. 

Gina is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, where she demonstrated her leadership as team captain of the Women’s Basketball Team, and as a first-team All-Conference. In 1993, Gina was honored as the NCAA Woman of the Year at West Point and received the Army Athletic Association Award. Gina also currently serves as the executive sponsor of our Veterans Forum ERG.

We are pleased to announce a large brake system order from Siemens Mobility in India for the 9000HP locomotive project for Indian Railways. The $157 million order will provide improved operating performance, efficiency, and safety with the latest technology for the new line of 1,200 electric locomotives. 

Wabtec will supply Siemens with brake systems from our Hosur plant for 11 years and maintenance services for 35 years. Siemens will assemble the locomotives at the Indian Railways factory in Dahod, in the state of Gujarat, India.

"Wabtec is committed to the delivery of high performance and safety critical products for the Indian market," said Sujatha Narayan, Senior Vice President and India Region Leader, Wabtec Corporation. “The ILS series of braking system is a product ‘Made in India’, which is designed and developed by the India-based engineering team.”

We are proud to share that Trip Optimizer™, our smart “cruise control system” for trains has surpassed a major milestone as railroads used the energy-management software to efficiently operate their trains for more than 1 billion miles. That’s the equivalent of more than 40,000 trips around the Earth. Along the way, the 12,000 locomotives worldwide using Trip Optimizer accounted for 752 million gallons of fuel saved and 7.7 million tons of emissions reductions.

"This billion-mile accomplishment is a tribute to our customers and our team of innovators,” said Nalin Jain, President of Wabtec Digital Intelligence. “Trip Optimizer has become an integral locomotive operating system and an industry standard for railroads to efficiently manage the performance of their trains. It is building upon the rail industry’s leadership as the most efficient mode of transporting goods by enabling railroads to significantly cut down on unnecessary fuel consumption, minimize emissions, and optimize their travel routes.”
