The family&#39;s connection with the whisky industry dates back to the turn of the 19th century when John Haig&#39;s first distillery was built on family land.  Even today, barley from their estate in Fife is grown for many of Scotland&#39;s leading distilleries.

On Monday night, we hosted a trial launch event for our Wemyss Malts RTD cocktail at Dram in London. In collaboration with Dram and Whitebox Cocktails , we were able to bring our vision to life! The talented team at Dram kindly developed the recipes for us, with the Cherry Clay old fashioned going down a storm at our event on Monday night! The wonderful people at Whitebox brought our vision to life by producing their signature mini cans for our RTD - we were so pleased with the end result! Our event was a huge success with over 50 influencers and journalists with their plus ones joining us to try our new recipe, discover our brand and enjoy our signature Hive-balls too! "In the world of whisky, the terms for production processes can be quite peculiar, as I've explored in previous blogs. One such term is that of ‘marrying’ whisky. It’s a term for a process that takes place in the blending stage after whiskies have been matured and introduced to each other in the blending vat – a kind of whisky honeymoon, if you will. But why is it important and where does the ‘wood’ aspect come in?" We believe that marrying our whiskies in wood, creates a rounder, smoother blend than if we just married in a metal vat. We ‘marry’ our whiskies together, then return the whiskies to their original casks to mature for a bit longer – normally a month or two. “It helps the flavours to meld together,” says Isabella Wemyss , “It makes them mix properly so that you get a fuller, richer, smoother flavour out of each dram. We think this is a very important element in maximising on the aroma and flavour profile you get after opening one of our bottles.” This technique is used in all of our blended malt whiskies including A Quarter Passed limited edition blended malt whisky as well as our core range, The Hive, Spice King and Peat Chimney.
