WordPress is a web content management system that started in 2003 as a tool for publishing blogs. It has evolved to support publishing various web content, including websites, mailing lists, forums, media galleries, membership sites, learning management systems, and online stores. WordPress is free and open-source software and is one of the most popular content management systems, used by 42.8% of the top 10 million websites as of October 2021. It is written in PHP and paired with a MySQL or MariaDB database. WordPress features a plugin architecture and a template system known as 'Themes'.
