There’s always a new scam that bad actors are trying to pull off, but one has gotten so bad that the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority is sending out a warning. It says it’s seeing a significant spike in investor complaints of recommendations made by fake investment groups being promoted and shared across social media channels. Since November, the scam has been responsible for millions of dollars in losses.  

Earlier this week, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to keep criminals and foreign adversaries from exploiting the U.S. financial system and assets through investment advisers.
