YTL Corporation Bhd's 9-Month Profit After Tax Rises 186% to RM2.8 Billion (US$596 Million); Revenue Increases 9% to RM22.3 Billion (US$4.7 Billion)

Kuala Lumpur, Thursday 23 May 2024 — YTL Corporation Bhd recorded revenue of RM22,258.5million (US$4,735.9 mn) for the 9 months ended 31 March 2024, a 9% increase compared to RM20,410.2 million (US$4,342.6 mn) for the previous corresponding 9 months ended 31 March 2023.

Profit before tax grew 173% to RM3,569.2 million (US$759.4 mn) for the 9 months under review compared to RM1,306.3 million (US$277.9 mn) for the same period last year, whilst profit after tax rose 186% to RM2,802.3 million (US$596.2 mn) this year compared to RM979.7 million (US$208.4mn) for the same period last year. 

Executive Chairman, Tan Sri (Sir) Francis Yeoh Sock Ping, PSM, KBE, said, "We continued to see strong results through the third quarter of the 2024 financial year, with profit after tax up 186% and revenue increasing 9%, driven by better performance across the Group. All divisions contributed to the higher profit seen for the nine months under review.

"The Group's EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) increased 64% to RM7.0 billion for the 9 months ended 31 March 2024 compared to RM4.3 billion for the same period last year."

Synergistic benefits for YTL Corporation Bhd from NSL Ltd (Singapore) stake buy

KUALA LUMPUR: YTL Corp Bhd’s acquisition of a majority stake in a Singapore-listed building materials company is expected to result in a marginal increase in the net gearing of the Malaysian engineering and construction conglomerate.

According to CGS International (CGSI) Research, YTL’s net gearing could increase to 1.62 times from 1.59 times as at June 2023, assuming the proposed acquisition did not result in a mandatory general offer (MGO).

“In our view, this could be a timely acquisition with the rapid expansion of its data centre business in Kulai, Johor, where the use of precast concrete components could expedite the speed of construction,” CGSI Research said.


Additionally, it noted the slew of mega projects in Singapore, such as Changi Terminal 5 (S$10bil), Integrated Resorts Expansion (S$9bil), Tuas Mega Port (S$20bil) and the mass rapid transit projects (S$57bil), to be awarded over the next few years might encourage the use of precast components and is synergistic to YTL’s cement business.

“More importantly, this acquisition could also enable it to increase its external related order book for construction, which is currently being dominated by internal projects,” it added.

Meanwhile, MIDF Research said the proposed acquisition of the NSL stake is expected to create synergistic benefits to the YTL group while opening doors to new markets for the company.

“YTL’s acquisition of NSL will open the doors to the industrialised building system business in Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai and Finland. This will synergise well with YTL Cement’s business, which comes at an opportune time in light of the boom in data centres and industrial buildings in Malaysia, where precast concrete components are expected to facilitate the speed of construction,” MIDF Research said.

MIDF Research has maintained its “buy” call on YTL with an unchanged target price of RM4.19.

“We continue to like YTL as a beneficiary of the infrastructure upcycle, given its dominant share of domestic cement supply; its strategic venture into data centres and renewable energy via its utilities division.

“We view the proposed acquisition of NSL as a positive one for YTL,” it explained.

From palm oil to data: Malaysia builds AI hub on Singapore’s doorstep

"The next boost should come from artificial intelligence companies that want to build AI foundational or training models in Malaysia, according to Yeoh Seok Hong, managing director of YTL Power International. His company has struck a $4.3bn deal to build an AI data centre in Johor with NVIDIA as a tenant — an agreement that involves a partnership in cloud computing and a supercomputer project. YTL Power’s share price is up more than 100 per cent this year since the announcement."

MIDF  Amanah reaffirms ‘buy’ call and maintains a target price of RM4.19 for YTL Corporation Bhd .


PETALING JAYA: MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Bhd has reiterated its buy recommendation for YTL Corporation Bhd following the acquisition of an 81.24% stake in Singapore-listed NSL Ltd by its subsidiary, YTL Cement Bhd, for S$227.6 million (RM792.3 million).

“We continue to favour YTL Corp as a beneficiary of the infrastructure upcycle due to its dominant share of domestic cement supply and its strategic venture into data centres as well as renewable energy via its utilities division.

We view the proposed acquisition of NSL as a positive move for YTL", the investment bank said in a statement today.

MIDF Amanah also maintained a target price of RM4.19 for YTL Corp.

YTL Corp stated that the proposed acquisition offers a unique opportunity for expansion through YTL Cement and its subsidiaries into the industrialised building system sector in Malaysia, Dubai, Finland and Singapore.

It also facilitates the expansion of YTL Cement’s environmental services business into Singapore through NSL’s environmental service operations, providing synergistic advantages, the company said in a recent Bursa Malaysia filing.

YTL Power International Green Data Centre A Significant Earnings Contributor In 2026

The green data centre (DC) sector is set to expand significantly with YTL Power’s continuous growth and strategic initiatives, according to RHB Banking Group Investment Bank (RHB).

RHB maintained its BUY rating on YTL Power, with a target price of RM6.68, projecting a 35% upside and approximately 2% yield for Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25F).

Following a site visit, RHB analysts reported optimism for YTL Power’s Green Data Centre Park in Kulai, Johor. The first 48MW data centre is commercialised, with ongoing talks to secure additional capacity and plans to configure parts of it into an artificial intelligence (AI) data centre.

The first 20MW of YTL Power’s 100MW AI-DC is nearing completion, with server installation expected by year-end. The entire AI-DC capacity is projected to be operational by mid-2025, contributing significantly to the company’s earnings from 2026 onwards.

YTL Power is also constructing a new data centre phase with 40+40MW capacity, expected to be completed by mid-2025. This facility aims to attract hyperscalers and leverage vacant land for future solar energy projects, enhancing its green energy credentials.

RHB’s positive outlook is further supported by the expected supply of NVIDIA Corp’s chips by the first half of the calendar year 2025 (1HCY25). This positions YTL Power favourably amidst rising demand for AI and green energy solutions, projecting robust growth for the company’s data centre operations.

The bank’s analysis underscores YTL Power’s strategic positioning within the growing green data centre market.
