What do the top 100 players in the market do differently, and why are they successful?

Multi Carrier Option 🔢
Today, your customers want to have options. They expect a selection of different shipping options and parcel service providers at checkout.

- 64.1% offer 1-4 carriers at checkout
- 42.8% offer 1-2 carriers at checkout

The advantage of offering only one or a few carriers is the bundling of shipping volume with one or a few service providers. The sweet spot is to offer three carriers for standard shipping - for example, DHL, GLS, and UPS. The 4th option would be next-day delivery or express shipping.

Express Shipping ⏱️
The biggest converter or non-converter at checkout is the shipping time. In recent years, the standard for fast delivery has been set increasingly higher and shorter.
However, only four out of ten top online retailers offer express shipping, even though this option is desired by the majority of customers. You are already better than 60% of the top online retailers if you offer an express shipping option in your shop.

Just about 40% of top online retailers offer express shipping in their shop. They charge a significant surcharge for this. Costs range from €4.99 to €19.99.
If you offer an express shipping option that is cheaper than €4.99, you have a cheaper next-day delivery option than at least 85.7% of top online retailers. 

Standard Shipping and Minimum Order Values for Free Shipping 🛒
The amount of costs in standard shipping can be the deciding factor for whether your customer ultimately buys or decides against it. Therefore, it is essential to have an optimal pricing strategy for your standard shipping. Let's first consider the base price for standard shipping:

Except for 5.6%, top online retailers charge a fee for shipping - at least up to a certain order value. The majority charges a base price for standard shipping of at least €2.00, but rather over €4.00.

A well-known lever to encourage your customers to order more is to set a minimum order value (MOV) for free shipping:

- 49.5% of online retailers offer free shipping from a certain MOV.
- 44.9% always charge shipping costs.

The sweet spot of your pricing strategy is to charge a base price of €1.99 for standard shipping - making you cheaper than 91% of top online retailers - and offer free shipping for orders over €29.99. Only 22.5% of top online retailers offer free standard shipping over €29.99. 

Delivery Time 🕑
The average delivery time for the top 100 online retailers is 2.7 working days. 
76.5% of retailers aim for a delivery time of 2 to 3 working days. The significant sweet spot is to be 1 day faster than your competition. If you offer reliable next-day delivery, you leave the majority behind and belong to the 7.1%.
