With currently 40 employees, it offers solutions that help companies to address business challenges and to create developmental impact.

With the Business Support Services (BSS) and develoPPP programs, as well as through services provided by the Agency for Business &amp; Economic Development (AWE) and the Helpdesk on Business &amp; Human Rights, it provides companies with advisory and funding solutions for their investments in developing and emerging countries.

🌸 Blooming Opportunities & Growth in Kenya 🌿: The German plant producer Gemini Green GmbH & Co. KG, part of the Selecta one Group, is one of the world's leading growers of ornamental plants. Since 1999, the German family business and long-standing DEG customer has been propagating bedding and balcony plants, perennials and cut flowers in Kenya through its subsidiary Selecta Kenya. We're celebrating, develoPPP's turning 25! Over the past few months, my journey with develoPPP Ventures has taken me across Africa – from Nigeria to Kenya, Tanzania to Rwanda, and finally back home to South Africa. Each country has its own vibrant startup ecosystem, and with every trip, I've been able to dive deeper into the unique nuances that drive innovation in each market. I've seen firsthand how optimism bias can fuel bold visions while anchoring helps stay aligned with a long-term mission. The opportunity to learn from local founders, investors and ecosystem builders has been invaluable. 🥳 Thanks for the invitation Julia Stausberg-Umuerri to join develoPPP’s 25th anniversary celebration! 🥳 As an implementation partner for DEG Impulse , on behalf of VC4A , I have been closely involved in the develoPPP Ventures program for over a year now (or three cohorts, one could say). Without a doubt, the learning curve has been very steep, and I’ve seen the program making continuous adjustments to fit the ever-changing needs of early-stage companies across the African continent. What stands out for me is the realization that these companies don’t just need (catalytic) funding, but also dearly benefit from knowledge transfer, bespoke technical assistance and longevity in the support provided – all elements of the develoPPP Ventures program. The picture below was taken last month, when I met the team of Impact Hub Kigali , VC4A’s local implementation partner for the program in Rwanda. 🌟 Thank you Meike Evelyn Goetze for passing on the torch as we celebrate 25 years of develoPPP! What stands out for me is how the program has evolved over time, continually integrating lessons learned to remain relevant. A standout example is the develoPPP Ventures instrument, which we rolled out since 2021. By now, over 80 early-stage companies have received catalytic funding to accelerate their growth and scale solutions for the social and ecological transformation across Africa. This picture was taken at our second pitch event in Tanzania in early 2023. We met many of the founders who pitched that day at our develoPPP Ventures portfolio dinner in Dar Es Salaam three weeks ago. How to stay on track, remain confident and successful in terms of impact + returns, even in globally tough times: some of the issues we talked about during our DEG townhall this week. Together with my colleague Gesa Hess , I had the pleasure of hosting this meeting. With around 300 colleagues attending, 160 in presence at our HQ, the others via live-stream🤩 Our special guest, Christiane Laibach , Executive Board member of KfW , responsible for its international financing - which DEG is part of - informed about recent international topics and debates, new KfW initiatives and underlined the global importance of climate protection and biodiversity. 🌿 Roland Siller presented some impressive figures of DEG activities in 2024, e.g. new commitments of around 1.4 billion EUR to date. In addition, colleagues shared their expertise and current activities on Green Hydrogen investments and presented new services by DEG and DEG Impulse , supporting our clients on their transformation journey.
