Deutsche Rück was originally founded in 1951 to provide reinsurance cover to Germany’s public insurers. With over 300 years of tradition behind them, they are collectively Number 2 in the German primary insurance market. To this day, they remain both our owners and important product providers for the German Savings Banks, which in turn own a majority stake in most of them.

Like the Savings Banks and public insurers, Deutsche Rück directs its attention towards regional and national businesses, which we understand on the most intimate level. There is a solid logic to this arrangement, as it gives us the ideal perspective to apply the same principles to our business partnerships in the other national markets we serve.

🌊 🔥 🌪 Floods, wildfires and storms – the consequences of global warming – are becoming increasingly frequent and severe in many European countries. But two thirds of all climate-related losses that occurred in EU member states between 2010 and 2019 were uninsured – a statistic that illustrates how critical the situation has become.
 
Our picture shows the town of Erftstadt-Blessem in Germany, after water ingress in a gravel pit caused houses to sink into a huge earth crater, following heavy rainfall caused by storm event BERND in 2021.
