Another year is slowly but surely coming to an end and it was once again a pleasure to celebrate our growth, campaigns, store openings and but most importantly our #TeamDOUGLAS with you in 2023. 

Together, we can look back on a successful year in which we for example celebrated the implementation of our new corporate strategy "Let It Bloom”, the launch of our new brand images, as well as several store openings - like our first store in Belgium. 2023 was truly remarkable.

𝗗𝗢𝗨𝗚𝗟𝗔𝗦 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟮/𝟮𝟯
We are looking back on a successful fourth quarter and on a very strong financial year 2022/23 in total: From October 2022 to September 2023, DOUGLAS has reported record sales and earnings and for the first time ever surpassed the mark of 4 billion euros in Group adjusted net sales (4.1 billion euros, +12.1%). Sales growth was driven by our unique omnichannel model as both stores (+13.0%) and E-Commerce (+10.3%) went up double-digit. At the same time, we have improved our profitability: Our adj. EBITDA increased significantly by 22.3% to 725.9 million euros. All of this results in a positive net income of 16.7 million euros.

The successful fourth quarter (July to September) has contributed to this record performance with total Group adj. sales (net) of 883.0 million euros, up 9.1% year-on-year and coming from both channels: Store adj. sales grew by 9.2% and E-Com by 7.9%. In Q4, DOUGLAS achieved a higher profitability as well with an adj. EBITDA of 136.7 million euros (+25.0%).

Beyond numbers, we are also on course for future growth. As the implementation of our strategy “Let is Bloom” is proceeding well, business development will be driven by several initiatives:

🏪 𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲
With 39 store openings and 76 modernizations in the closed fiscal year, we are well on track in upgrading our store network. Now we are ramping up our pace – particularly in Central Eastern Europe, one of our key growth regions. We already opened the first stores in our new country Slovenia – and also Belgium.

𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 - 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗤𝟭 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻🎬
For the first time, our Brand CI & Campaigns team created an overarching Q1 umbrella campaign in collaboration with the creative agency Jung von Matt. With "Feel Beautiful Feelings", the three most important sales occasions of the year – Singles’ Day, Beauty Friday and Christmas - were linked together using one creative approach. The various emotions of the festive and campaign days were placed at the heart of the campaign with this year's theme "Feel Yourself" on Singles’ Day, "Feel Lucky" on Beauty Friday and "Feel the Magic" at Christmas. 

The team led by Clara Corre, Head of Brand CI & Campaigns, worked on the campaign for almost a year. It all started in January with looking for the right photographer and director, which they found in Katia Wik. This was followed by the search for a great and diverse cast of dancers who could convey the special feelings and bring them to life. And then the time had come: five days of filming and shooting together with AKKURAT Studios produced the magic that you have been able to experience online, on TV and in our stores since November. ✨

Christmas is just around the corner and everyone is already looking for the perfect gift for their loved ones to bring them joy. We at DOUGLAS want to spread the holiday spirit as well and put a smile on the faces of people in need. 

That's why 400 colleagues from #TeamDOUGLAS came together for a great cause at this year's Sales Convention for the DACH region: To put a smile on the faces of people in need, they wrapped 580 gifts that will benefit a total of 23 women's shelters run by the German Caritas Association and the Catholic Women's Social Service. 

At the same time, our colleagues at our headquarters in Germany were looking after the little ones: In cooperation with the Froschkönige association, which supports families in need, our colleagues fulfilled 175 wishes of children who live with their families close to the poverty line. Together, our colleagues wrapped the presents so that the children can look forward to a wonderful Christmas. 

We are happy to be able to spread a little bit of Christmas magic together and would like to thank all our colleagues who were part of these fantastic projects. #WeDoBeautiful ❤️

We are excited to welcome Stefanie von Albert as our new Executive Vice President Assortment & Purchasing at the DOUGLAS Group. As of April 2024, the well experienced Manager will be responsible for our group-wide assortment and purchasing strategy which includes the development of our core beauty categories, our partner program categories and the relations with our brand partners. 

Stefanie has already gained over 20 years of valuable experience in the beauty industry while working at L'Oréal. Apart from her professional core tasks, she is a certified business coach, a member of Generation CEO e.V. - a network of female leaders in business – and a strategic start-up consultant.

“Coming from the beauty industry, it’s exciting for me to change the perspective. DOUGLAS is an outstanding brand and I’m eager to represent this towards our brand partners”, Stefanie said.
