Financing for #EnergySecurity and future #hydrogen infrastructure in #Germany:

Transmission system operator bayernets GmbH is investing EUR 210 million in the #energy infrastructure in Bavaria, which will also improve Baden-Württemberg's technical connection. KfW IPEX-Bank, Commerzbank AG and DZ BANK AG  
are each contributing a third of the sum.

The investments will be used for the construction of the 40.5 kilometre-long gas pipeline, AUGUSTA, which will connect the Wertingen network node in the district of Dillingen an der Donau, located on the Danube, to the Kötz network node in the district of Günzburg. Right from the outset, the pipeline will meet the basic requirements for the transportation of hydrogen, which will flow through the pipeline in the medium and long term. 

“The AUGUSTA pipeline is an important step in securing the energy supply in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg in the long term and will enable the transportation of hydrogen in the future,” explained Andreas Ufer, Member of the Management Board of KfW IPEX-Bank. “We are proud that our financing will contribute to the decarbonisation of industrial centres in southern Germany and, in turn, to maintaining Germany a strong industrial location.”

AUGUSTA will be linked to the planned SoutH2 Corridor, which is a joint initiative of four European transmission system operators from Germany, Austria and Italy. From 2030, green hydrogen will be transported from Algeria and Tunisia in North Africa to the Austrian-German border point at Burghausen via this conductor and then distributed in Germany via HyPipe Bavaria.

Proud to be part of the financing for a USD 1,5 bn landmark project in Chile: delivering seawater to the Chilean copper mines of Minera Centinela and Antucoya under a Green Loan financing agreement with Aguas Esperanza Spa. There are several very good reasons to participate in this financing:

✅ Contributing to resource conservation, as seawater is used for mine operations instead of groundwater. This is particularly important in the arid Atacama Desert.

✅ Contributing to the sustainable mining of copper, one of the most important resources for the decarbonisation and digitalisation of the global economy. In addition to using seawater, Minera Centinela is powered by 100% renewable energy. 

✅ Supporting the German and European export industry, as European partners are playing a key role in the project.

✅ Contributing to securing the supply of raw materials for Germany and Europe.

The IPFA's "Future Leaders Network" has set itself the guiding theme of "Accelerating Net Zero" for 2024.

The #transformation of the heating sector has a key role to play here. In Germany, the federal government has set the target of a CO2-neutral heat supply by 2045. The Heat Planning Act (WPG), which recently came into force, emphasises the role of district heating, which is to be promoted through expansion plans as part of municipal heat planning.

Estimates of the investments required by 2030 for the expansion and #decarbonisation of district heating range from EUR 30 to 50 billion. The discussion panel brings together experts from various disciplines to shed light on the possibilities of realising these ambitious goals from the perspectives of financing, regulation and sustainability.
