Conversations and cuisine: Last week, Steffen Reese , Naturland General Manager, and Marco Schlüter , Naturland Head of Strategy and International, visited China to kick off the project “EU Organic - Nurturing Nature, Nourishing You” with a series of events. Around 200 Chinese professionals from the food sector, media representatives as well as key opinion leaders joined the workshops in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou to learn more about EU organic food and the environmental message behind organic products. The demand for high-quality, organic products in China is rising as consumers prioritize health and a more sustainable lifestyle. With the EU co-funded project, Naturland aims to increase the awareness for EU organic standards in food production as well as the importance of sustainable agriculture. #China #EU #organic #food #sustainable

Raising #trout using #aquaculture can be a highly sustainable way to produce fish, reducing the pressure on wild trout populations. Trout are a relatively low-maintenance fish to farm and can be raised to market size in a comparatively short period of time. However, this species requires clean, cold water to thrive and is susceptible to a number of diseases. Producing healthy trout in aquaculture in a natural way that also respects animal welfare requires experience and dedication. For this reason, the Naturland Georgia project team recently hosted a workshop on hygiene, disease prevention and organic treatment for trout in collaboration with Fhoreji, the Georgian fishery farmers’ association. At the workshop in #Georgia , stakeholders from various sectors met to discuss challenges and opportunities of sustainable aquaculture and trout farming. This included representatives from the agricultural associations WFA, GFA, and ELKANA, as well as local trout fish farmers, representatives of laboratories and the Georgian food agency. A main challenge in Georgia is the lack of experts and experience regarding diagnostic methods at the laboratories. Support is needed to improve exact diagnostics and the prescription of medicine in the case of diseases in trout. The workshop addressed this with a presentation on diagnostic possibilities at laboratories. Visiting veterinarian Peter Steinbauer also offered a theoretical and practical training on disease prevention, measures for better hygiene and organic treatment methods. A further training on #organic aquaculture will be held in Georgia next year. The workshop was part of the project “Georgia organic - Farming for the future”, in which Naturland is supporting the expansion of organic agriculture in Georgia.

Kick-off for a new learning platform for organic farming in #Vietnam : Dr. Hà Phúc Mịch, president of Vietnam Organic - VOAA , and Marco Schlüter, managing director for strategy & international affairs at Naturland e V., just signed the Memorandum of Agreement for the joint learning platform in Hanoi. The umbrella organisation VOAA brings together the stakeholders of organic agriculture in Vietnam - farmers, research institutes, scientists, businesses, associations and cooperatives. VOAA is a major driver of #organic #agriculture in Vietnam and a strategic partner for Naturland in Southeast Asia. The joint learning platform will expand the services for VOAA’s members and provide learning opportunities to Vietnamese stakeholders interested in organic agriculture. The trainings will be developed with sector experts and cover a range of formats, including online courses, factsheets, videos, and face-to-face meetings to connect the organic community. Besides organic farming, the platform will also provide information about social responsibility and fair trade. Until October 2026, the operation of the platform will be funded by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) via sequa under the KVP project. Gerechte Bezahlung, langfristige Verträge und eine Prämie am Ende des Jahres für die Produzent:innen, also direkt für die Bäuerinnen und Bauern des globalen Südens. Das sind einige der Vorteile für alle, die Naturland FAIR zertifizierten Kooperativen angehören. Beim Influencer-Event in der Fausto Kaffeerösterei in München gaben unsere internationalen Gäste aus Burundi und der Dominikanischen Republik vom Kaffeekooperativen-Verband COCOCA und der Kakaokooperative COOPROAGRO spannende Einblicke in ihre Arbeit rund um den Anbau der begehrten Bio-Bohnen. Eindrucksvoll schilderten sie, wie die Naturland Fair Zertifizierung mehr Planbarkeit und Sicherheit für die ganze Kooperative gewährleistet. Und wie gut so viel Fairness schmeckt, das konnten die Influencerinnen beim Coffeetasting und beim Schokoladenworkshop gleich selbst probieren. 🫒 The Peloponnese is one of the traditional olive-growing regions in #Greece and around ¼ of Greek #olives are grown here. Both Koroneiki olives for olive oil and the famous Kalamata olives are mostly cultivated by small farming families on the peninsula. Sustainable #WaterManagement plays an important role for the olive growers of the Peleponnese, as extreme weather conditions such as droughts and heavy rainfall are becoming more frequent here also due to #ClimateChange . This is why Naturland's water expert Lea Moog and her Greek colleague Niki Makrynioti held a #workshop on Naturland's requirements for sustainable water management in Sparta. Together with farmers, agricultural experts and inspectors, an active exchange on the precious ressource water took place.
