Last week, we had the pleasure of celebrating the launch of Michael Sheridan's book, Archetypes, published by Strandberg Publishing . In this beautifully curated volume, the American architect and renowned expert in modern Danish architecture and design explores the enduring history of Danish archetypes. These designs have remained relevant across generations with their flawless functionality and elegant simplicity. Through an insightful examination of twenty iconic objects, the book charts the transformation of Danish design, from handcrafted masterpieces to precision-made industrial works, featuring renowned creators such as Grethe Meyer, Mogens Koch, and Børge Mogensen. We are pleased to announce that Maria Bruun has been appointed as the new Head of Design at Fredericia. In this role, Bruun will oversee the curation of Fredericia's product portfolio and contribute to the creative direction of showrooms and events worldwide. Bruun's close collaboration with Fredericia began in 2020 with the creation of the Islets Table Collection, followed by the Pioneer stool series. Earlier this year, our partnership deepened when Maria curated our exhibition, Crafting the Present, during 3daysofdesign . Rasmus Graversen , CEO and third-generation of the Graversen family behind Fredericia, shares: “Our design heritage must continuously be in dialogue with contemporary and innovative designs. It is equally essential for Fredericia to remain a company where design has a strong voice in decision-making, and Maria has an exceptional ability to articulate what is essential and to pursue it with dedication." At the same time, as Head of Design, the award-winning designer will maintain her design practice, where she creates product and furniture designs for Danish and international design companies. In addition, she continues her curatorial work, most recently with the curation of The Mindcraft Project.

What does it mean to be circular by design? Circular design considers all aspects of product development, creating durable, reusable, repairable and recyclable products that generate zero waste to support a circular economy. Fredericia’s Pato Collection embodies this ethos. It comprises multi-purpose chairs crafted from pure recycled polypropylene (PP), derived from a blend of household and industrial waste. Consequently, every chair in the series can be recycled endlessly. Additionally, all standard textiles used in the collection carry the EU Ecolabel, ensuring the highest sustainability standards. We are happy to announce that the Klint Chair, designed by Kaare Klint in 1936, has been certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel signifies that the entire product lifecycle is considered, from raw materials, production, and use to recycling and disposal. This is included in the assessment when drawing up the requirements for an eco-labelled product. Achieving a certification like this for a nearly 100-year-old design is a testament to our core values: to create furniture that becomes more beautiful with age and is intended to be passed on from generation to generation. These core values are rooted in our sense of responsibility and our use of natural materials, our ethical methods of production and our respect for the people using our furniture every day.
