Mindre end 25% af de studerende er idag kvinder, og de som vælger det tekniske gymnasie vælger meget sjældent programmering, fysik. Mange vælger den vej de fleste vælger. Amazing Nordic Women in Tech Awards in Oslo this week. High5Girls was the honorary owner of a new category: Teens. 4 girls were nominated. Both Ada Sinangin and Cecilie Basse Larsen were nominated and present in Oslo. They were just amazing on the scene. Role model Clionadh Martin were the winner in the category: Entrepreneur of the year. And both role model Inese Podgaiska , Júlia Rey Vilches and Silvia Tolu were there - we had an amazing evening celebrating so many inspiring women. Thank you Plamena Cherneva for a wonderful experience for us all.

Happy Sunday! Today, we shine our spotlight 💡 onto Jeanette Cheah 💁🏻♀️ , an entrepreneur who cofounded HEX , a Melbourne-based company that is helping the next generation of founders and leaders 🎤 launch their businesses - with the aim of seeing a more diverse group of people leading in business 🏢, tech 👩💻, and governments ⚖️. Cheah grew up across the US, Australia, Malaysia, and Japan, and has a background in economics and sociology. She never thought she would end up working in the field of education 👩🏫, but knew she wanted to economically empower people to create businesses that would sustain humanity ♻️. When kicking off in 2017, HEX - formerly known as “hacker exchange”- did a pilot program with 7 students and taught them how to build a start-up 📈. During the pandemic, HEX Ed was born: an online platform with virtual internships, challenges, and cohort-based programs to help students learn how to start a business ✍. Today, HEX has programs, workshops, and events where founders can take start up concepts from idea phase 🧠 to prototype 🛠️, pitch their ideas to investors, and get feedback on their ideas from a vast network of professionals. Cheah has won numerous awards for her achievements 🏆 – she was named one of 40 Under 40 Influential Asian Australians in 2021, made the Top 100 Innovators List in The Australian in 2022 and 2023, and was listed as one of EY ’s Entrepreneurial Wining Women Oceania earlier this year. According to reseach it is mother who talk to daughter about education. This is the reason why we do Mother/ Daughter afternoons where we do hands-on technology together, talk about rolemodels and how to support your daughter if she chooses an education far from where mother has experience. As one mother said a while ago after a mother/ daughter event: "I do not remember when I had such quality time with my daughter last time". As always it is our rolemodels that are in charge. Last week we did a mother/ daughter event at Mobile Industrial Robots in #Odense together with rolemodel Diana Trifon , Anne Groth & Josefine. Look at the pictures below that shows glimses from an amazing event. You were fantastic and the back up from Bjarke and his team was great. BIG HIGH5 to you all.

Rolemodels are the core of High5Girls. They share their passion for STEM (science technology engineering mathematics) with the next generation. Rolemodels give us the opportunity to be broad in STEM as the activities we do in High5Girls are developed around the technology of the rolemodels which means we get access to latest news within all areas of STEM. Last week we had an amazing Mother/ daughter event at Mobile Industrial Robots in #Odense . Mother is the person that most often talk about education with daughter which is why we invite mother/ daughter to an event where we do hands-on technology together and talk about mother as a rolemodel and how she can support her daughter in her choices - also if she choose a route mother would never choose. We did the event in cooperation with rolemodel Diana Trifon , Josefine and Anne - also a BIG thank you to Bjarke, the manager of Quality Team and his Team - you all did an amazing job welcoming us and making us fell welcome. New month - new theme for our ⚡Sunday Spotlight⚡! In November, we will be looking into women in Entrepreneurship - starting off with Odunayo Eweniyi . With a background in Computer Science, Eweniyi already started her entrepreneurial journey in 2013. After some trial and error with other ideas, Piggyvest was born - the first online app for investment and personal savings in West Africa. Under her leadership, the platform has not only grown significantly but has also set a benchmark for fintech in Africa! Beyond her entrepreneurial achievements, Eweniyi is a passionate advocate for women in technology. She actively mentors young women, emphasizing the importance of representation and support in the industry. To take matters into her own hands, she co-founded FirstCheck Africa in 2021, a women-led angel fund and investor community helping especially Black and African women to get funding for their ideas. Odunayo Eweniyi is not just breaking barriers - she is paving the way for future generations of women in tech. Meet our rolemodel Martina Reche-Vilanova - Naval architech and maritime engineer. Martina is focused around aerodynamics, green shipping, and digitalization. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD in wind propulsion for commercial ships. Her project aims to develop a cost-benefit analysis tool to help accelerate the adoption of this green propulsion method for shipping in the 2020s. Martina is an active High5Girls rolemodel and actually she will be doing a High5Girls camp on Maritime November 29/30 2024 at #DTU in #Lyngby ( link will follow soon)

Welcome to our final ⚡ Sunday Spotlight ⚡ of the month! Today we highlight Gitanjali Rao , who at the young age of 18 years old, has already used her talents in the field of electrical engineering and beyond to: create a device that detects lead in drinking water 🚰, code an app and a chrome extension that uses AI to detect cyberbullying 👊, and code another app and device attempting to find a solution for prescription opioid addiction 💊. When Rao was in just second grade, she would watch the news with her parents and hear about the water crisis 🚱 in Flint, Michigan. She decided she wanted to help, and by the time she was eleven years old, Rao had already spent more than a year developing a device that could test water for contaminants and accurately deliver results. In 2021, she received a patent for this device, which she called Tethys, after the Greek goddess of fresh water. Rao is now in her second year at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with an undecided major, but is decidedly changing lives. One of her main goals is to inspire others help solve the world’s problems 🌎, just like her. She hosts innovation workshops all over the world in collaboration with STEM organizations, museums, rural schools, and more.
