Flying on electricity & hydrogen, by AZEA The publication on electric and hydrogen aircraft from a European perspective is now being published. Read about this below and in more detail in the accompanying link. …… NISA, Nordic Initiative for Sustainable Aviation, has participated in the EU commission's Alliance for Zero Emission Aviation (AZEA) over the past few years. Today AZEA has published an extensive material on what the vision is for the future of zero emission aviation: Flying on electricity & hydrogen. You can read some of the main points from the AZEA report below, and find the full publication by this link: https://lnkd.in/du9fh-_5 The report sets the ambitious objective to have 36 to 68% of intra-EU flights operated by these new aircraft configurations by 2050 and describes how they would progressively penetrate the market. It identifies the total renewable and low carbon energy required to operate those flights in 2050: The transition to electric and hydrogen aviation represents a considerable challenge, requiring the collaboration of all stakeholders to address the technological, infrastructural, and regulatory hurdles. However, beyond these hurdles is an opportunity that is even greater - to reshape the way we travel, to significantly reduce our environmental footprint, and to pioneer a sustainable future for global aviation with European technology. In addition to the collaboration in AZEA, NISA works through the EU project ALIGHT and the Nordic electric aircraft network NEA to promote the development of new propellants. Furthermore, there is a need to establish stakeholder forums to coordinate the many elements needed to prepare for receiving the future zero emission aircraft. Relevant for operators, airports, authorities, and other players who will play a role in this exciting and necessary development.
