San Francisco will be our home base this week as we meet with companies and investment partners from across the globe. We support companies in the US, Europe and Asia, across the life sciences continuum from very early-stage Seed investments, through the Ventures and Growth stages and into Principal (buyout) investments. With an annual capital deployment target of USD $3 billion, we’re looking forward to a productive #JPM2024 week.

2023 was a year of notable milestones for the Novo Holdings Seed Investments team. Our portfolio companies raised >$460m and we launched SeedLab, a wet laboratory in Denmark which will serve to incubate scientific concepts and ideas. The Novo Holdings Seed Investments team is focused on building and investing in early-stage breakthrough life science companies and on collaborating with innovators globally. Today we announced an investment in Nalu Medical, Inc., a medical technology company developing minimally invasive solutions for patients living with chronic neuropathic pain in the lower back and joints. With this financing, Nalu Medical will accelerate product development and commercialization that could benefit up to 16 million patients in the US alone. We’re pleased to expand our portfolio in the chronic pain space, and to support Nalu’s strong management team in this period of rapid commercial growth.

Antimicrobial resistance poses a worldwide health emergency, and Novo Holdings is committed to playing a role in addressing this issue through its REPAIR Impact Fund.

LimmaTech Biologics AG, a Novo Holdings REPAIR Impact Fund portfolio company, today announced that it is expanding its vaccine pipeline by licensing AbVacc’s innovative vaccine candidate against staphylococcus aureus. LimmaTech will initiate Phase 1 clinical development of the vaccine candidate in 2024 with an option to acquire full worldwide rights after the trial readout.
 
AbVacc has been part of the Novo Holdings REPAIR Impact Fund's portfolio since 2019. AbVacc’s Staphylococcus aureus vaccine has been supported by investments from the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Diseases and CARB-X.
 
Staphylococcus aureus is the leading cause of antimicrobial resistance-related deaths in the U.S. and Europe. It affects approximately 30% of the human population while causing a wide array of infections, from skin and soft tissue infections to severe conditions like pneumonia and bloodstream infections.

Neuropathic pain is a debilitating condition affecting more than 400 million people globally. Hoba Therapeutics, a Danish biotech company co-founded by Novo Holdings, today announced a EUR 23 million Series A that will help to advance the clinical development of HB-086 for the treatment of chronic neuropathic pain conditions.
 
The financing was co-led by Indaco Venture Partners and Medical Incubator Japan, and includes investments from current investors Novo Holdings, Eir Ventures, and the Danmarks Eksport - og Investeringsfond (EIFO).

Today, Novo Holdings portfolio company Doctor Anywhere announced a USD 40.8 million Series C1 extension round with participating investors including Square Peg and Novo Holdings.
Doctor Anywhere is committed to providing comprehensive care that encompasses primary care, specialist care, telehealth, preventive health, and wellness solutions.
 
Founded as a telemedicine platform in Singapore in 2017, Doctor Anywhere has expanded to become a regional healthcare provider, serving more than 2.5 million users in six Southeast Asian countries. We are pleased to announce our USD 115 million investment in energyRe, a leading independent US-based energy company focused on solving complex sustainability challenges and providing clean energy solutions in utility-scale transmission, onshore wind and solar, offshore wind, energy storage and distributed generation.
 
energyRe raised a total of USD 300 million. Glentra Capital, an energy investment firm co-founded by Novo Holdings that aims to accelerate the energy transition for a clean and sustainable future, led the fundraising and was also joined by PKA and Elia Group.
