Seit mehr als 10 Jahren arbeitet Anja schon im Bereich Biodiversität und bringt unschätzbares Wissen mit ins Team. In der Vergangenheit hat sie sich mit der Frage beschäftigt, welche Auswirkungen unser Handeln auf die Umwelt hat und wie wir diese verringern können, und vor allem, wie wir uns für den Schutz der biologischen Vielfalt engagieren können? Dabei kennt sich Anja sowohl in Forschung, Politik, Verwaltung, Umweltorganisationen sowie in der Wirtschaft aus und kann die Brücke zwischen den einzelnen Bereichen bauen. Für uns einfach die perfekte erste Mitarbeiterin!

Being on the right side of history! Today, 336 individuals in the EU Parliament can proudly claim to have been exactly that as the Nature Restoration Law just passed the EU Parliament! This landmark legislation, known as the "Restoration Law," signifies a pivotal moment for European nature conservation and may well be the most significant Nature Conservation Act in decades.

At its core, the Restoration Law sets an ambitious target to rehabilitate a minimum of 20% of Europe's degraded ecosystems by 2030. It introduces binding objectives across seven critical areas of action, including farmlands, peatlands, pollinators, and sea bottoms. This is good news for Businesses as well, as 50% of the global GDP depends on intact Nature. 

Now, as the Nature Restoration Law is passed, the real work lies ahead—translating these ambitions into concrete actions for businesses and all stakeholders. What this means for Businesses and Sustainability Managers exactly we will speak more to over the weeks to come..

Heute ist der Tag der der biologischen Vielfalt und daher ein besonders wichtiger Tag für uns. Happy Biodiversity Day! 💚 


👉 Lasst uns mal einen Blick darauf werfen, was Biodiversität eigentlich bedeutet und warum es so wichtig für uns alle ist.

💡 Biodiversität steht als Sammelbegriff für die Vielzahl der Arten, die genetischen Besonderheiten innerhalb der Arten und die Vielfalt der Lebensgemeinschaften. Der Begriff bedeutet also mehr als nur Artenvielfalt und dementsprechend geht es bei der Erhaltung auch um mehr als nur den Schutz von Arten. Biologische Vielfalt für uns Menschen vor allem Lebensqualität. Tiere, Pflanzen, Pilze oder Mikroorganismen sorgen für sauberes Wasser, frische Luft, ein angenehmes Klima und fruchtbaren Boden für gesunde Nahrungsmittel.

Leider ist unsere Lebensqualität derzeit und auch zukünftig stark gefährdet. Durch unsere Aktivitäten beeinflussen wir genau diese biologische Vielfalt und in den letzten Jahren vor allem mit negativen Folgen. Durch Infrastrukturmaßnahmen, Abholzung, Überfischung und die industrielle, intensive Landwirtschaft zerstören wir zunehmend Lebensräume. Hinzu kommt der Klimawandel und die sich zu schnell ändernden Umweltbedingungen, welche die biologische Vielfalt zusätzlich bedrohen.

Lasst uns Maßnahmen ergreifen, um die biologische Vielfalt zu schützen und zu erhalten. Das können wir auf individueller als auch auf globaler Ebene erreichen, indem wir unser Bewusstsein stärken und Handeln. Wir können unseren eigenen ökologischen Fußabdruck verringern, indem wir umweltfreundliche Entscheidungen treffen, nachhaltige landwirtschaftliche Praktiken unterstützen und uns für den Schutz bedrohter Arten einsetzen.

Politik und Wirtschaft sind ganz wichtige Akteure, wenn es um den Schutz und Erhalt biologischer Vielfalt geht. Aber auch wir – jede und jeder einzelne von uns kann etwas beitragen. Das können wir auf unseren Balkonen oder in unseren Gärten, z.B. durch Wassertränken für Vögel und Insekten oder Wildblumen statt akkurat gemähtem Rasen. Es gibt viele kleine Möglichkeiten, die dann in der Menge einen Unterschied machen.
