Today marks National Native American Heritage Day, a time to honor the significant contributions of Native Americans, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, First Nation, and Indigenous communities. Amidst the celebration, we acknowledge Berkeley's complex history, sitting on the ancestral land of the Chochenyo-speaking Ohlone people. The university's commitment to repatriation efforts under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) is ongoing, with progress made but challenges remaining. 

Despite past injustices, collaborative initiatives, such as the Karuk Collaborative and Breath of Life Archival Institute, are paving the way for positive transformations. For our campus community, Native American students, faculty, and staff can reach out to the Native American Student Development, American Indian Graduate Program, and the Native & Indigenous Council (faculty, staff, postdocs) to help find community and connection. As we reflect on National Native American Heritage Month, we encourage everyone to engage in educational opportunities, explore resources, and attend events that promote understanding and respect for Indigenous cultures.

Open Enrollment 2024 for UC Berkeley's health and welfare benefits will close TODAY - Friday, Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. If you’re satisfied with your current benefits, Open Enrollment may not feel like a priority, but it’s worth your time to take a few important steps:
- Make sure you’re still enrolled in the best benefits for you and your family. Sign in to UCPath online with your Calnet credentials at https://lnkd.in/gEKwagJq. 
- Due to the increase in rate costs, please review the medical plan rates for 2024.
- Enroll or re-enroll in a Health and/or Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account for 2024. Your other benefits will continue if you don’t take action, but you must re-enroll each year to continue your FSA.
- Please take a minute to update your demographic information, e.g. race/ethnicity/gender, in UCPath, which features more options for self-identification than ever before. Make sure that details such as your address, emergency contact information etc. are fully up to date in UCPath.
