On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of helping to kick off the sold-out 25th Annual Cybersecurity Symposium. Since it started in 2000, an estimated 10,000 current and future industry professionals have attended and $750,000 in scholarships and support for future cybersecurity professionals has been raised. Professor Bill Chu, Director of the CyberDNA Center, has been "the maestro" for the event over the years. Excited to share with you all the Launch of the Charlotte Center for Humane AI Studies (CHAIS). https://lnkd.in/enhJErKg The Center brings together thought leaders in multiple disciplines to develop an interdisciplinary social sciences and humanities-led research agenda, with input from computational and health sciences, on how AI intersects with social crises. The research program will identify and study the ways that AI can both exacerbate and ameliorate social crises. The research framework encompasses Trustworthy AI, Equity and AI, and AI Literacy. Research projects follow a convergent, interdisciplinary approach that views AI as part of larger, sociotechnical systems. It’s official: In the newly released U.S. News & World Report 2025 rankings, we jumped 17 spots to #100 in the undergraduate computer science ranking. This places CCI squarely in the top 17% of all computer science programs in the country! Earlier this year, Niche ranked our CS program at #78, in the top 10% nationally. This is all thanks to the collective efforts of our students, alumni, faculty and staff. Congratulations to University of North Carolina at Charlotte Bioinformatics Master's student Abhijeet Henry , whose infectious disease project — "Salivary proteome analysis of xerostomic patients reveals a novel molecular pathway dysregulation related to Parkinson's disease" — earned Honorable Mention honors and a cash prize at UNC Charlotte's 2024 Biomedical Sciences Symposium poster competition earlier this week.
