The Georgia Technical College Law Enforcement Academy (LEA) gets bigger and better with every class. Our current cohort (2024-052) is 51 students strong!! These students just finished their firearm training and are in 'defensive tactics' training this week. Georgia Piedmont Technical College, in partnership with the Technical College System of Georgia ( TCSG ), is celebrating Apprentice Week in Georgia. TCSG -and its 22 colleges across The Peach State- works closely with local businesses to address workforce needs and create career pathways for the Georgia's workforce through the Registered Apprenticeship Program model. Since 2022, GPTC has launched three such apprenticeship programs - Emergency Medical Technician, Industrial Maintenance Technician and Mechatronics. GPTC President Dr. Tavarez Holston was a speaker at last week's "All Leader Meeting" for Atlanta Gas Light and Chattanooga Gas . Georgia Piedmont Technical College would like to recognize two special groups of students on this Veterans Day. 🪖 First up is the initial cohort of Veteran students in our Mechatronics Immersive Learning Experience (MILE) program. They started in September and are gaining valuable and highly marketable skills in electricity, robotics, programmable logic controls and more. They are scheduled to graduate on Jan. 23, 2025. This intensive, hands-on program prepares Veterans for success in the manufacturing industry, where they’ll play an essential role in shaping the future of automation and technology. Besides the top-tier training, these students are also being compensated for their time -- making this a true investment in their future. Another hi-tech pathway for Veteran students comes via the Microelectronics & Nanomanufacturing Certificate Program (MNCP). The five-student cohort in this 12-week program will wrap up their studies on November 22. They successfully completed an intensive semester where they attained skills in cleanroom protocol & safety, nanotechnology fundamentals, microelectronics & semiconductor fabrication and more. Thanks to partnering school Georgia Tech for use of their specialized learning space. As we honor their service, GPTC is excited to help these special Veterans take this next step in their careers by providing them with the tools and support to thrive in the growing fields of manufacturing and microelectronics. Almost 25 industries from the surrounding area were on hand to talk to adult job seekers as well as high school students about internships and/or apprentice opportunities to set them up for the future.
