The University of Alabama System is a unified system that governs three public universities in Alabama: The University of Alabama, The University of Alabama at Birmingham, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville. It is dedicated to providing quality education, research, and healthcare services.

Established in 1969, the UA System is governed by the Board of Trustees. This structure provides for a definitive, orderly form of governance, and secures and continues responsive, progressive, and superior institutions of higher education.

While in D.C., Capitol Scholars will participate in:
- Internship experiences with congressional offices, executive branch agencies and advocacy groups,
- Professional networking opportunities,
- Leadership development, and
- Policy research, analysis and advocacy.
