Yesterday, we held our 14th annual Quality & Safety Fair to give our faculty and staff the opportunity to showcase quality improvement projects that are making a difference in the lives of patients across the health system. This year, more than 50 posters were presented, highlighting unit-wide and system-wide quality-improvement projects like safe-sleep education for new parents and a food insecurity study among cancer patients. In 2023, Jaden Blankenship was a member of UIC and UI Health’s Cancer Health Equity Summer Scholars (CHESS) program, where he met his mentor, The University of Illinois Cancer Center researcher Dr. Richard Minshall, PhD. Fast forward two years, and the 17-year-old senior at Illinois Math and Science Academy isn’t just exploring existing research. He’s advancing it. He and Dr. Minshall recently spoke to WGN news about their work to discover drugs with the potential to prevent the spread of triple-negative breast cancer.
