EDFI ElectriFI - The Electrification Financing Initiative early investment of USD 1.43 million as shareholder and a lender alongside Energy Access Ventures, empowered them in 2018 to build the first large-scale solar-hybrid mini-grid in Goma. This project, despite facing security challenges and health crisis, showcased the viability of renewable energy in the region.

Very inspiring and fruitful mission in Nigeria. Together with EDFI MC AgriFi Manager Lionel Dieu and Portfolio Manager William Barrault, I attended the EU-Nigeria Business Forum. It was a pleasure to be on the main stage to talk about access to finance in the agrifood sector. 

It was good to witness the big effort undertaken by the Rural Electrification Agency (RAE) towards universal and affordable access to electricity. 

And the best: our prospects for AgriFi, ElectriFi and Nexus, as well as our portfolio companies in the country. It was a pleasure to visit the Wuse Market, the biggest connected mini grid in the country, developed by GVE, the innovative mesh grids by Okra or the priceless support to smallholders by Babban Gona, to name a few.

In July 2023 EDFI MC invested through EDFI AgriFI - The Agriculture Financing Initiative a total of EUR 3 million in GBF. The financing is aimed at supporting the creation of a new processing facility for cashews and dried mango in Bobo Dioulasso. The project will allow to increase processed volumes and optimize sustainable energy use. Read the full story:
