We are set to follow today's hearing of Jessika Roswall , Commissioner-designate for Environment, Water Resilience and Competitive Circular Economy. We are keen to find out how Ms. Roswall will promote the European Water Resilience Strategy and the #CircularEconomy . What is particularly important is that the #EU prioritises the smooth and qualitative development of the secondary legislation necessary to the proper implementation of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation ( #PPWR ). This will help accelerate the #EU ’s sustainability ambitions and our sector’s goals, while also creating a secondary raw materials market in the EU to enable industry to achieve its targets. This is a great opportunity to underline our sector's #sustainability actions and policy needs ahead of the upcoming hearing of Jessika Roswall , Commissioner-designate for Environment, Water Resilience and Competitive Circular Economy. As part of our commitment, we are driving environmental sustainability throughout our value chain – from production to distribution – through a wide range of actions. When it comes to #PackagingCircularity , we are focused on improving the sustainability of our #packaging through reduction, collection, #recycling , #reuse and #refill . Next Wednesday is set to be another key moment with the hearing of Olivér Várhelyi, Commissioner-designate for Health and Animal Welfare. We are keen to learn how Mr. Várhelyi plans to promote balanced diets in Europe. Our sector is making a significant contribution to supporting balanced lifestyles. For many years, we have been #DoingOurPart by accelerating #SugarReduction , offering smaller pack sizes to enable portion control, and ensuring we do not market and advertise our #SoftDrinks to children. We are committed to continuing our efforts with the support of the European Commission for: 1⃣ Evidence-based and non-discriminatory policies that support safe ingredients, such as low/no-calorie #sweeteners , recognising their role in helping consumers to manage their sugar intake and incentivising further reformulation for sugar reduction 2⃣ Up-to-date and reliable pan-European monitoring of #food and #drink consumption data and patterns to better understand what Europeans actually consume and what interventions can be effective 3⃣ Voluntary initiatives, including the maintenance of the #EUCodeOfConduct on Responsible Food Business and Marketing Practices, to mobilise industry actions We are ready to collaborate with policymakers to ensure a supportive, fair and science-based #EU #health and #nutrition agenda. 🔎 Explore our Manifesto to find out more 👉 https://lnkd.in/djhd2GzA

Why regulate when voluntary initiatives deliver positive change? Look at how the European Commission ’s #EUCodeOfConduct on Responsible Food Business and Marketing Practices has encouraged a wave of voluntary commitments from the entire #food and #drink industry to create a more sustainable food system in the #EU . Voluntary initiatives like this should be supported in the new EU mandate. Our sector has pioneered voluntary actions for over 20 years, and is proud to keep delivering on its commitments.
