As vehicles transform into tech-savvy hubs resembling smartphones on wheels, the demand for always-on connectivity is bigger than ever. Currently, the inconsistent network coverage is impacting efficiency, safety, and overall user experience in connected vehicles.

A couple of weeks ago, our very own Project Engineer, Indraditya Bhattacharyya, presented UNIO and his paper on “Optimising Data Links in the TN-NTN World” at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) 6G and Future Networks Conference in London! 📡✨

Indraditya's presentation showcased how optimising #DataLinks between Terrestrial Networks (TN) and Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) can revolutionise future #connectivity. His paper dives into integrating #TN and #NTN to create a Unified Communication platform, emphasising a hybrid network architecture that combines the high data rates and low latency of TN with the wide coverage of NTN. This integration promises to enhance user experience by reducing downtime and improving reliability, particularly in remote areas.

Key Highlights from Indraditya's Paper:
🚀 Optimising Data Links: Addressed the critical need for seamless global connectivity by optimising data links between TN and NTN amid rising data demands.
🚀 User Terminal Challenges: Analysed difficulties UTs face in minimising satellite data usage and improving cellular coverage in challenging circumstances, especially in dynamic vehicle and satellite interactions.
🚀 AI-Driven Solutions: Proposed predictive AI for efficient data minimisation and seamless network switching, enhancing transition efficiency and reducing downtime.
🚀 Architectural Considerations: Explored the impact of inter-network switching on TN and NTN architecture, including constellation management and route optimisation over Optical Inter-Satellite Links (OISLs).
🚀 Future Technologies and QoS: Emphasised Quality of Service (QoS) through Direct to Cell technologies and High-Altitude Platform Stations (HAPS), advocating a holistic approach for comprehensive coverage and network-managed switching.

The importance of seamless switching between TN and NTN to achieve a truly unified communication system is clearer than ever and a core focus for #UNIO. Indra’s exploration into optimising data links between TN and NTN reveals a promising future for global connectivity. Implementing #AI, especially RL and Deep Q learning, shows significant progress in managing network transitions and minimising disruptions.

World Economic Forum includes  OHB participations ConstellR and UNIO in the list of 100 most promising start-ups worldwide

Congratulations to ConstellR and UNIO for being part of the list, which includes only 7 start-ups from Germany. While ConstellR targets to optimize productivity in agriculture through infrared data from space, UNIO will ensure seamless always on connectivity for mobile assets like cars or tractors, using terrestrial and space networks.

I had a great day at UNIO today, discussing major further initiatives with the team and our fellow shareholders. We concluded the day with a test ride on UNIO‘s “always on” connected demonstrator car. Thanks to the team for preparing the day!
