The City of Arlington is a local government entity responsible for providing public services, infrastructure maintenance, and community development to the residents of Arlington, Texas. It operates under the council-manager form of government, with a city council setting policy and a city manager overseeing day-to-day operations.

Marty Wieder has been named as the new executive director of the Arlington Economic Development Corporation (AEDC), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to create a vibrant, globally connected and innovative community that fosters equitable growth for all. The AEDC recruits business and industry, helps local companies grow and generates quality job opportunities throughout the Arlington metro area.

A two-time graduate of The University of Texas at Arlington, Wieder has over 30 years of economic development experience, most recently serving as the City of Grand Prairie’s economic development director. Wieder will begin on Feb. 19: https://lnkd.in/gbV2Rj4p

Monday, Jan. 1 marked the official launch of the United Football League (UFL), the premier spring football league, resulting from the merger of the XFL and USFL. The new UFL will be headquartered in Arlington.

The Arlington Renegades will be one of eight teams competing in the United Football League’s inaugural season, which kicks off on March 30, 2024. The Renegades will look to defend their 2023 championship under the helm of head coach Bob Stoops when the inaugural 10-game season kicks off this spring.

With the help of a U.S. Department of Energy grant, the City of Arlington is partnering with Tarrant Area Food Bank, The University of Texas at Arlington, North Central Texas Council of Governments and others to implement the Multimodal Delivery Project through 2025. This pilot program will test and evaluate the use of no-emission or low-emission drones and four-wheeled robots to deliver essential food items from Tarrant Area Food Bank to individuals who are mobility challenged, historically disadvantaged, or lack a reliable means of transportation: https://bit.ly/3RnrZtp

Overair, an emerging global leader in advanced air mobility and developer of all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, today announced a historic partnership with the City of Arlington. This collaboration marks the first-ever direct partnership between a city in Texas and an eVTOL Original Equipment Manufacturer. Together, Overair and Arlington aim to develop and launch electric vertical takeoff and landing operations, starting at the Arlington Municipal Airport, and extending throughout the DFW region.
