In The News | The equivalent to taking nearly 1 million cars off the road. The OECD estimates that greenhouse gas emissions from plastics will more than double between 2019 and 2060. Akron's Sustainable Polymers Tech Hub aims to slow the trajectory of those emissions from oil-based plastics, resulting in an overall reduction of 3.9M tons of carbon emissions per year. The hub was made possible by the CHIPS and Science Act, which poured billions of dollars across the country to spur tech manufacturing and innovation. I was proud to host today students from my alma mater Florida International University (FIU) who are doing a Climate Fly-In to Washington, DC to attend the "Accelerating Commercialization of Climate Technologies” National Workshop for University Collaborators of Climate-focused on EDA Tech Hubs. FIU is part of the South Florida Tech Hub Consortium – the South Florida ClimateReady Tech Hub. Many kudos to Mia Rodriguez , an FIU student completing an internship at the U.S. Economic Development Administration at the U.S. Department of Commerce this semester for organizing this visit, and to my colleagues Edwina Manyeh , Deputy Director of the EDA Tech Hubs Program and Amanda Kosty , Program Officer for the EDA Tech Hubs Program for their great presentations on the President Biden-Harris Administration EDA Tech Hubs Program. Thank you to FIU in DC Director Carlos A.
