The City of Oak Ridge is in the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan and we need your input! The Plan will help the City enhance its character, further improve the quality of life for residents, and support economic development. The Comprehensive Plan will serve as the City’s road map for the next 20 years. The City Council, Planning Commission, and City Staff will use the Plan to make important land use, budgeting, and development decisions. Oak Ridge Recreation & Parks is working with University of Tennessee Civil Engineering students on a Senior Design project for proposed trail improvements on the ED-6 parcel, pending transfer from the Department of Energy. The students are using the working project name of “Westwood Trail Center” and want input from the public! A second public input meeting will take place Thursday, Nov. 7, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Senior Center. This is a design exercise for their senior design class and is not intended as a final plan for the park area. If the transfer of ED-6 to the City takes place, this work could be used to inform park development. Additional opportunities for public input will be part of the process if the City develops and implements a complete plan for that area.

Oak Ridge City Court Fees and Bond Forfeitures will increase on November 1. Oak Ridge City Court will increase its Court Clerk Fee to $113.75. The $27 increase will help offset the recent purchase of new software set to be installed this year. Most bond forfeitures will increase by $15. State violations like the Tennessee Hands-Free, Seatbelt, and Child Restraint violations remain the same. “This court clerk fee increase is the first one we’ve had since 2020 and is still lower than most in the surrounding area,” Court Clerk Robin Nettles said. “This increase will help cover some of the software costs and any other improvements we may need in the coming years.” To view a full list of the updated City Court Clerk Fees and Bond Forfeitures, visit citycourt.oakridgetn.gov . The City of Oak Ridge Department of Recreation & Parks Department is currently seeking basketball officials for its upcoming 2025 basketball season. TSSAA experience is preferred, but not required. As this is a contract position, all applicants must be at least 18 years of age. The season is tentatively scheduled to begin January 6, 2025, and end the last week of March 2025. The annual citywide leaf pickup program begins 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟴, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰. In an effort to improve the pickup process, Waste Connections of Tennessee – Oak Ridge is slightly changing the way pickup is conducted. It will operate similarly to the household bulk pickup that is underway. The new schedule lists a group of roads and streets to be serviced over the course of the full week, instead of on specific days. Residents are asked to have their materials out by 7 a.m. on the Monday of the beginning of their scheduled week for pickup. Schedule: oakridgetn.gov/leafpickup

The Oak Ridge Animal Shelter will celebrate its 50th Anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. There will be local vendors, partnering rescue groups, information booths, food trucks, and kids activities. The Oak Ridge Police Department K9 Team will hold demonstrations at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. All are invited to celebrate the success of the Animal Shelter and the service provided to our community.

The City of Oak Ridge Internship Program is a paid, seasonal internship for those looking to complete an internship to gain professional experience in their field of degree. We are currently accepting “cold weather” donations (𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀, 𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗼𝗴𝗴𝗮𝗻𝘀, 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀, 𝗸𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀) to be distributed on Friday, October 11, 2024, and Friday, October 18, 2024. Coats are not needed at this time due to limited resources for distribution. Please bring new and gently used items to the City of Oak Ridge Municipal Building’s Utility Business Office at 200 S. Tulane Avenue or the Oak Ridge Central Services Complex at 100 Woodbury Lane, between the hours of 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.
