We manage the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC) to provide innovative crop insurance products to America’s farmers and ranchers. Approved Insurance Providers sell and service Federal crop insurance policies in every state and in Puerto Rico through a public-private partnership with us, and we back the providers who share the risks associated with catastrophic losses due to major weather events.

During Native American Heritage Month, we celebrate the rich history, traditions, and agricultural contributions of our Native American communities. RMA is dedicated to ensuring that citizens of tribal nations have access to USDA programs, especially Federal crop insurance. This year we are proud to introduce our new Tribal Ambassador, Gilbert Louis III of the Pueblo of Acoma tribe. For the next year, Gilbert will engage with tribal members to help them learn how Federal crop insurance can be used a risk management tool for their farm operations. Gilbert will be part of the RMA contingent at the 2024 Intertribal Agriculture Council (IAC) Annual Conference in Las Vegas, NV, December 10-12. Remember to visit him if you attend. RMA Administrator Marcia Bunger has been on the road, speaking to farmers whose operations were impacted by recent hurricane activity. RMA is proud to have quickly paid indemnities to policyholders with the Hurricane Insurance Protection – Wind Index (HIP-WI) endorsement. In 2024, $633 million has been paid for this endorsement, and RMA expects more policies to pay and support recovery once loss adjustments are completed. If you have Federal crop insurance and have been impacted by hurricanes or tropical storms, contact your crop insurance agent as soon as damage to your crop or livestock is suspected. Our employees make Federal crop insurance happen. Thank you to our Director of the Springfield Regional Office, Brian Frieden , for sharing how crop insurance can work for producers implementing practices for soil health.

We estimate there are more than 38,000 crop insurance policies, covering more than 4.8 million acres, in place in the areas affected by Hurricane Helene. USDA has instructed crop insurance companies to expedite loss adjustments necessary to make payments, and we expect payments to be made within 30 days.
