Smartlens is a clinical-stage company developing innovative technologies for diagnosing and treating glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible blindness.

Its flagship product, miLens, is a groundbreaking, non-invasive contact lens-based device designed to monitor intraocular pressure (IOP), the primary and only treatable risk factor for glaucoma. miLens addresses a significant unmet need in glaucoma management that has persisted since the 1950s.

Strong clinical results for miLens were presented at the 2023 and 2024 American Glaucoma Society meetings, and commercialization is planned for 2025.

Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide and more than 50% of the people suffering from Glaucoma are undiagnosed.

Smartlens aims to significantly improve patient outcomes and how doctors manage the disease by providing an efficient and convenient way of IOP monitoring and personalized treatments.

• Announced positive clinical results in a study focused on evaluating the accuracy and comfort of miLens. The study reported a significant and statistically strong correlation between IOP measurements obtained with miLens and those obtained using Goldmann applanation tonometry (GAT) in twenty-five individuals.

• Closed an oversubscribed $6.1M Series A equity financing round led by Ambit Health Ventures, joined by Stanford University, Graphene Ventures, Sophia Innovation Capital, Plaisance Capital Management, 3E Bioventures, Boutique Venture Partners and Wilson Sonsini Investments alongside doctors, industry veterans and key opinion leaders. The funding will be used to advance regulatory clearance for miLens, a novel, electronics-free, soft contact lens for monitoring diurnal intraocular pressure
