#PolyU welcomed a delegation from the Yau Tsim Mong District Council recently. The delegates include Mr Edward YU Kin-keung, District Officer (Yau Tsim Mong) and Chairman of Yau Tsim Mong District Council, and District Council Members including Mr LEE Ka-hin, Ms SUEN Chi-man, Mr WONG Kin-san, Mr Chris IP Ngo-tung, Mr Alex POON King-wo, Ir Michelle TANG Ming-sum, Mr CHUNG Kong-mo, Mr GUAN Weixi and Ms Aruna GURUNG. During the visit, Dr Miranda Lou , PolyU Executive Vice President, and Mr Ben LAU, Director of Campus Development, shared the University’s latest campus development projects. Prof. Eric CHUI, Head of Department of Applied Social Sciences and Co-Director of the The Hong Kong Polytechnic University - Policy Research Centre for Innovation and Technology , also gave an introduction on the District Care Teams training programme. The delegation visited the PolyU Optometry Clinic, and learnt about its advanced facilities and eye care services available to the public from Prof. Allen Cheong , Associate Head (National and International Engagement) and Professor of the School of Optometry and Dr Rita Sum , Associate Consultant Optometrist and Clinic in-charge . They also toured the University Square to gain a deeper understanding of PolyU’s latest campus development projects including the Library Extension & Revitalisation and Garden Restaurant. Finally, the delegation visited the Jockey Club Smart Ageing Hub where Ir Professor Yongping Zheng , Director of Research Institute for Smart Ageing and Jockey Club Smart Ageing Hub introduced various innovative genrontech devices and gave a demonstration of the portable and non-invasive liver fibrosis assessment medical device Liverscan®. 【 #AgreementSigning ✍🏻】 #PolyU signed a collaborative framework agreement with Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunications Corp., Ltd to upgrade the existing “PolyU-OPPO Joint Innovation Lab” into the “PolyU-OPPO Joint Innovation Research Centre”, effective from January 2025. OPPO aims to provide no less than RMB 30 million to fund the Joint Innovation Research Centre and support its research and operation over the next five years. As the demand for mobile video filming and multimedia content creation continues to grow, the future research direction of the Joint Innovation Research Centre will not only continue present research on artificial intelligence ( #AI ) driven #computationalimaging but also extend to more complex areas, such as video algorithms, album editing and lightweight Generative AI models, with an aim to leveraging AI technology for mobile devices while maintaining high-quality image output. FERINGA, 2016 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry and Jacobus H. van’t Hoff Distinguished Professor of Molecular Sciences at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands; - Dr Lawrence LI Kwok-chang, JP, Specialist in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery and PolyU Deputy Council Chairman The year is a very special time for PolyU as it celebrates the 30th anniversary of attaining university status.
