Recently, the FSAI virtually held the inaugural meeting of the ‘eCommerce and Online Food Business Forum’. The event welcomed attendees and key members from industry including online food businesses, food delivery aggregators, online platforms, and trade associations. The objective of the Forum is to provide a platform for open dialogue and interaction for all attendees to address regulatory opportunities and developments and to promote consistency and responsible practices in the online food business sector. Topics discussed in the meeting included an overview of the Official Controls Regulation 2017/625 and the work that is undertaken in European eCommerce working groups including the Heads of Food Safety Agencies (HoA) eCommerce Working Group. The keynote speaker, Dana Paraschiv , Director of Regulatory Operations Coimisiún na Meán , presented to the group on the important provisions of the Digital Service Act 2024, the Online Safety and Media Regulation Act, and Coimisiún na Meán’s regulatory remit and powers within the online food sector and legislative framework. Thank you to all attendees for the engagement and contributions. We look forward to the next meeting of the Forum early 2025 with this diverse group of representatives, and for the compliance building opportunities that lie ahead. 📢 Last month, Ireland took a leading role at the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) in Germany! Dr Mary Flynn , Chief Specialist in Public Health Nutrition, and Niamh Clarke, Technical Executive in Public Health Nutrition Policy at FSAI, represented Ireland in this globally impactful event. 👏 2024 marks a milestone as Ireland became the first EU Member State to lead the chair position for Agenda Items at CCNFSDU. The work chaired by Ireland was the main Agenda Item at CCNFSDU and Ireland also chaired a day-long physical Working Group prior to the meeting. Since 2017, Ireland has chaired the development of Nutrient Reference Values on Requirement (NRVs-R) to ensure safe labelling of foods for infants and young children aged 6–36 months, working with co-chairs Costa Rica and the USA to bring this to life. The CCNFSDU's work focuses on creating international guidelines to protect consumers, with a large proportion of the work carried out by this Committee focusing on infant and young child nutrition.
