It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our esteemed colleague and friend, Professor Amos Richmond, at the age of 93. As one of the founding fathers of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Amos played a crucial role in establishing the Desert Research Institute and served as the dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences. His visionary work in plant physiology, particularly in the cultivation of microalgae in arid environments, has been groundbreaking. Amos’ research has had a lasting impact on the development of sustainable agriculture and biotechnology. He authored over 120 scientific papers and wrote chapters in influential books, establishing the foundation for modern microalgae cultivation. His passion for his work, coupled with his mentorship and guidance, inspired countless students and colleagues. On a personal note, it was an honor to have met Professor Richmond when he visited us at our pilot facility in the early days of Brevel. His wisdom, kindness, and dedication to science left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Amos’s family and friends during this difficult time. His legacy will continue to inspire us all.

Today marks one year since October 7th, 2023 - a day that forever changed our lives and our nation. We pause to remember, to grieve, and to reflect. Our hearts are heavy as we think of all those who lost their lives, those who were injured, and those who are still held in captivity. The pain and trauma of that day continue to resonate deeply within our community and our company. One-third of our team were drafted to army service on that terrible day. Even, today, two of our colleagues remain in active service. Their absence is felt daily, reminding us of the ongoing impact of these events on our lives and work. In the face of such tragedy, we've found strength in unity and purpose. Our mission has taken on new meaning - it's become a way to contribute by continuing to build and create, even in the darkest times. To those still held captive: we have not forgotten you. To those who have fallen: your memory will forever be a blessing. And to all those affected by the events of October 7th: our thoughts are with you today and always. May we find strength in our shared resilience and hope in our unity.
