The University of Hyderabad has recently signed an MoU with Department of Languages and Cultures at Ghent University , Belgium for the Nilgiri Archaeological Project ( https://lnkd.in/gkPa7TFN ), under Professor Danilea De simone (Principal Investigator) exploring the cultural and environmental history of South India. Dr. N. Ramesh is a Research Partner in the Nilgiri Archaeological Project. The project would focus on the relationship between the language and culture, examining how language reflects social identities, cultural practices and group dynamics and the role includes carrying out interviews and observations within communities to understand language use in cultural contexts. The main focus will be on Toda, Badaga and Kota languages by documenting and preserving the linguistic diversity. In addition, the project would also compare the language practices across cultures to understand the universal and culture specific features. Dr. N. Ramesh currently serving as an Associate Professor at the Centre for Applied Linguistics and Translation Studies, School of Humanities, University of Hyderabad holds a Master’s in Linguistics and an M.Phil in Applied Linguistics from the University of Hyderabad, along with a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Bharathiar University . His specialization includes Tribal linguistics, Language Endangerment, and Language Documentation. With over 15 published research articles and more than 25 conference presentations, He hails from an indigenous Badaga community from Nilgiris. He has supervised four Ph.D. scholars and is guiding three more, focusing on tribal languages, particularly the Todas of #Nilgiris . Mr. ANEES M , a Ph.D. research scholar under the guidance of Dr. Madhavi Ravikumar in the Department of Communication at the University of Hyderabad , presented a paper titled "Connected Lives: Revolutionizing Health and Social Interaction with Wearable Technology in India" at the 16th International Conference on Intelligent Human-Computer Interaction (IHCI). This prestigious event, hosted by The BMS Lab at the University of Twente in Enschede, Netherlands, took place from November 13 to 15, 2024. Anees's research, which has also been accepted for publication, explores the transformative impact of wearable technology on health and social connectivity within the Indian context, highlighting its potential to reshape everyday interactions and wellness practices. The University of Hyderabad had the honour of hosting Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Education, Government of India, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, on his visit to its campus on 13th November 2024. Dr. Majumdar interacted with the Vice Chancellor, Prof. B J Rao, Registrar, Dr. DEVESH NIGAM , Deans of the Schools, and Heads of Departments/Centres. Prof. Ghanashyam Krishna Mamidipudi , Director-Institution of Eminence (IoE) gave a brief presentation on the implementation and progress of the IoE scheme at the university. During his interaction, Dr. Majumdar emphasized the importance of quality education and innovation in shaping the future of the nation. He applauded the university's efforts in achieving excellence in research, academics, and community outreach. The Minister also discussed the government's initiatives to promote education and skills development, aligning with the university's vision. Dr. Majumdar visited the ASPIRE BioNest incubation facility (Knowledge-based incubator in Life Sciences) and interacted with the startups in their area of research and also had a first-hand account on some of their innovations. Later the Hon’ble Minister planted a sapling in the campus as part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, a unique initiative combining environmental responsibility with a heartfelt tribute to mothers. The University of Hyderabad has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the MicroInsurance Innovation Hub (MIIH) to collaborate on a range of initiatives aimed at advancing the field of microinsurance. This partnership will focus on several key areas, including capacity development, research, data-driven innovation, and the promotion of sustainable development. Prof. Debashis Acharya, School of Economics, will be the Coordinator. Supriya Goli, ED, MIIH, will represent MIIH as its Coordinator. The MoU was signed by Mr Kamalakar Sai Palavasala, Founder Associate, MIIH, and CEO of MicroNsure, and Dr Devesh Nigam, Registrar, University of Hyderabad. Prof. B J Rao, Vice Chancellor, addressed the gathering, welcomed this knowledge partnership and wished both parties successful collaboration. Policy Advocacy: Advocate for supportive microinsurance regulations through research and stakeholder engagement. Sustainability &amp; Growth: Secure diversified funding, continuously improve programs, and develop a plan for future scalability. Some of the deliverables include the following. Capacity development programs: Train stakeholders on microinsurance fundamentals, product development, and distribution strategies. Partner with academic institutions to offer specialized microinsurance courses. Knowledge generation: Develop and disseminate research reports, white papers, and case studies on microinsurance best practices. Create a knowledge repository for stakeholders to access relevant information. Resource generation and dialogue: Collaborate in publishing the monthly magazine, PULSE, featuring microinsurance trends and expert insights. Organize Conferences on Microinsurance to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing. Ms. Nelisiwe Gcinile Magongo from the School of Medical Sciences, University of Hyderabad has secured first position in 10K run of Hyderabad Half Marathon conducted by NEB Sports . She stood first in the category Women 30-45 years and 4th in overall Women category. More than 1000 runners participated in the event. The student is pursuing Masters in Public Health from the School of Medical Sciences.
