Inflection Point Ventures was started in 2018 with the aim of driving exponential value creation by being India’s most accessible & efficient network connecting a diverse investor community with a carefully set of curated startups.
IPV is an early-stage angel investing platform, which provides both monetary and non-monetary support to the startups, as well as complete transparency around valuation, findings during due diligence, and personal interest (if any) to its investors.

Today, it has 12,000+ angel investors, with the community having expanded beyond CXOs to include HNIs who come from varied backgrounds, professions and areas of expertise. IPV caters to investors pan India, and overseas, giving them access to startups and deals, making the group location and region agnostic.

Since inception, we have invested in 200+ startups, with more in advanced stages of negotiations. IPV evaluation process screens startups and presents to investors only those, we feel have the potential to scale up. Headspace: How an unconventional duo created everyone's go-to meditation app

In today's edition of From The Archives, let's explore the origins of Headspace.

In his 20s, Andy Puddicombe left university to study meditation in the Himalayas. He became a Buddhist monk and for ten years, he traveled the world. After this, he decided to teach meditation to as many people as possible. 

On the other hand, Richard Pierson who was working at an ad agency felt absolutely burnt out from his job. He left his job in pursuit of becoming a freelancer, but anxiety came in his way. To deal with the demons of his mind, he attended a meditation clinic led by Puddicombe.

He was moved by the power of meditation and therefore decided to make it a regular practice. He made a deal with Puddicombe wherein he would give him marketing advice in exchange for one-on-one meditation sessions. 

The duo put their talents and expertise together and started a meditation event business under the name of Headspace. They continued hosting events in the UK, but they wanted to make meditation accessible for each and every one. And they wanted the meditations to be fun. 

They finally built the Headspace app with a library of guided meditations and it was launched in January 2012. 

As of 2023, Headspace has 70 million users across 190 countries. 

No one would have thought that a partnership between a monk and a corporate employee would some day lead to the creation of a wellness app loved far and wide. This story goes to show how connections with people who share the same ideas and aspirations can go on to create something really significant. Founders and investors, unlocking the potential of networking can ignite extraordinary collaborations, where diverse ideologies converge to achieve collective greatness.
