Our Data Services Hub platform ensures control over data streams with security, scalability, and real-time responsiveness. To enable the Data Products Exchange, we integrated DataHub’s Data Catalog. When we noticed DataHub didn't support scraping Azure Blob metadata, our dedicated team developed this feature in-house. We are proud to announce that we are contributing this new feature to the open-source community! Here’s an issue our client MYOB faced that I imagine is relatable - 

The company, like many others, was using dbt as their transformation tool. Eventually, they got to the point where there were over a thousand transformations taking place on the platform, making it hard to change one dataset’s schema without impacting other datasets downstream. 

This caused some problems…

Data consumers began noticing their datasets, reports, or dashboards were broken without warning. And even when they realized what was happening, they couldn’t solve the problem because the interconnected nature of those insights made it challenging to pinpoint exact dependencies and cascading effects.

That’s where Acryl offered support. 

Our UI was able to identify changes upstream, and notify owners via Slack and other means to update their dbt before they made their way down the pipe. We were able to proactively prevent disruptions, ensuring that datasets, reports, and dashboards remained functional and reliable.

We also leaned into the “shift-left philosophy,” creating automatic checks in the CI/CI pipelines to prevent problems from happening in the first place.

By automating the process, we reduced manual effort, allowing MYOB teams to focus on more value-added tasks. Now that they’re less prone to error, the MYOB team has quadrupled its overall usage of Snowflake in just a couple of years.

I started Acryl Data for the same reason many entrepreneurs launch companies - 

1. I was working on something else.
2. A problem came up.
3. Solved it for my organization.
4. Realized the problem affected the entire industry.
5. I Left my current role and decided to make it my life’s mission to provide this solution for everyone.

Before Acryl came to be, I was leading one of the engineering teams at LinkedIn, and we were trying to make data easy to use, trustworthy, and reliable across 10 to 15 data systems, spanning data storage, ETL tools, orchestrators, data lakes and AI platforms. 

We needed a single platform that would connect all these different systems seamlessly and efficiently, and I kept coming back to the same thesis: if we could get all the metadata in one place and drive data management using a central metadata graph, we could accomplish amazing things.

That’s how DataHub came to be.

Five years later, Acryl formed to bring DataHub to all data-driven organizations. Three years in, 30M dollars raised, working with countless Fortune 500 customers, and we’re just getting started!
