FinTech Collective is a global, early stage venture capital firm backing entrepreneurs who are rewiring the way money moves through the world. Founded in 2012 with offices in New York City and London, the firm has deep experience investing across capital markets, wealth and asset management, banking, lending, payments, insurance, and DeFi. If you are one of our readers, odds are you have a credit or debit card. For our U.S. readers, there’s a roughly one-in-two chance that the card is issued by Visa, the world’s largest major payment network. Visa is a financial behemoth working behind the scenes of trillions of dollars in annual transaction spend by connecting customers, issuers, acquirers, and merchants – and their network just announced a watershed moment for stablecoins and blockchain technology. Visa recently announced it would facilitate transactions involving acquirer’s Worldpay and Nuvei via Circle’s USDC stablecoin on Solana blockchain.

While Visa the payment director picks up their need for speed, we can’t help but wish their counterparts in the film industry would reconcile their differences and do the same. Who doesn’t want to be stuck watching reruns?

Now the implications of your questionable choice of bike brand – and other shopping patterns – are much further reaching.

Advancements in the algorithms being fed into credit decisioning engines have, in some cases, led to increased consumer surveillance and the inclusion of behavioral spending data. As a result, many activities that we would never imagine would affect our credit histories are now becoming the primary reason for denials of new lines or lowering existing lines of credit.

However, the CFPB is striking back. Now creditors using the aforementioned inputs must disclose specific reasons for any adverse decisioning outcomes.

This week, a number of headlines have pointed to institutional adoption of blockchain applications, including the London Stock Exchange Group drawing up plans for a new digital markets business. While this business is not related to cryptocurrency assets, it looks to use blockchain technology to improve the efficiency of trading existing asset classes on the platform. If successful, LSEG would be the first major stock exchange to adopt fully blockchain enabled transactions.

According to the European securities regulator, $800m of traditional assets have already been tokenized so far, and studies from BNY Mellon have reported 97% of institutional investors believe that tokenization will transform asset management broadly. Incremental projects and experimentation to implement blockchain technology are making steady progress as regulators also move forward in policy making. That said, after last night's opener at the Rugby World Cup, blockchain experimentation in the rugby playing world might be a little distracted for a few weeks!
