Let's take a look back on the growth of Singapore as a fintech hub, as we recount the notable fintech M&As over the past years. 

[Singlife stepped up 1 year after founding with acquisition of Zurich Insurance’s Singapore portfolio]

@SingLife (short for Singapore Life) announced that it was acquiring the business portfolio of @Zurich Insurance’s - Zurich Life Singapore in January 2018. Founded by Walter de Oude in 2017, Singlife is a digital insurance company, using cutting-edge technology to streamline applications, claims, and to keep premiums low. 

Singlife exceeded expectations in sales targets for online and advised sales that same year. This acquisition was made in the hopes of further accelerating Singlife’s growth to be a preferred Singaporean insurance company.

Under this agreement, Singlife became responsible for all Zurich Life Singapore's customers' policies, totalling approximately SGD$6 billion of coverage for life, critical illness and disability benefits. This acquisition also gave Zurich Life Singapore’s customers access to Singlife’s online capabilities to manage all policies. 

As for @Zurich Insurance, the move was in-line with its strategy to optimise its portfolio and geographical footprint.

[Lazada's exit to Ant Group marked Alipay’s takeover of SEA: The Story of HelloPay]

In April 2017, Alibaba’s affiliate Ant Group acquired Lazada 's subsidiary, HelloPay, to extend its payment reach in Southeast Asia. Founded by @Lazada in 2014, HelloPay was a Singapore-born secure payment platform that simplifies sending and receiving money for personal and commercial use. 
It was initially built as a payment service for Lazada’s e-commerce business. 

Alibaba.com also previously bought a $1 billion share in Lazada, and is presently the majority shareholder of Lazada Group. 

ANT Financial’s acquisition was in line with their goals of expanding AliPay’s reach in SEA. Alipay is already China’s largest mobile payment service, but its strategic acquisition of HelloPay unlocked newfound access to SEA markets. HelloPay was rebranded to Alipay Singapore, Alipay Malaysia, Alipay Indonesia and Alipay Philippines across the region.
