This includes both targeted attacks and opportunistic mass exploitation of vulnerabilities. In this talk we will discuss our experiences with vulnerabilities and incident handling in appliances to shed light on the issue from both an attacker and defender perspective.

Join our presentation ‘Demystifying cryptography and cutting through the (quantum) hype’ at Sikkerhetsfestivalen!

Cryptography is often viewed as difficult and obscure, a sub-discipline of security best left to mathematicians and other boffins. However, because it is so often poorly understood, it also carries a certain mystique and intrigue. The goal of cryptography is rarely to do cryptography, but rather to support other security objectives. However, a lack of deep crypto knowledge makes it hard to set correct priorities. This talk will provide an opinionated take on three areas where practitioners often go astray, and cut through some of the hype and common misunderstandings.

Tor E. Bjørstad, Principal security consultant at #mnemonic, will explain:
1) Common technical pitfalls and cryptographic fails
2) The need for supporting processes, and why cryptographic in itself is necessary but not sufficient
3) Why "quantum crypto" is unlikely to defeat your security anytime soon
