Precision Neuroscience 's Michael Mager and Dr. Benjamin Rapoport joined some of tech’s biggest newsmakers at The Wall Street Journal Tech Live this week, where they spoke to Rolfe Winkler in a session titled, “Exponential Impact: AI and Brain-Computer Interfaces.” They broke down how Precision’s approach to BCIs differs from that of competitors like Neuralink , and they delved into the real-world impact of a technology that can sometimes seem like science fiction. “Over the next couple of years, you’re going to be seeing people doing amazing things that we never could have possibly imagined with brain-controlled computers,” Dr. Rapoport said. When it comes to treating neurological disorders–a category that includes everything from Autism to depression to stroke recovery to Alzheimer’s–he emphasized that the field is just getting started. Morgan Stanley has released a report describing brain-computer interfaces (BCI) as the next big MedTech opportunity. They foresee the commercialization of BCIs for medical purposes within the next five years and project a $400B market opportunity in the U.S. alone, $1.5 billion in revenue generated by 2035, and a $1B annual run rate by 2041. According to the report, initial indications will focus on disease states such as ALS, spinal cord injury, and stroke—all of which Precision Neuroscience has been diligently working on.
