The Samoa Water Authority（SWA）, in cooperation with #Okinawa Prefecture, successfully completed a crucial training program designed to boost the skills of SWA employees in areas such as water pressure control, pipeline detection, and leak survey/repair. This initiative, funded by the JICA, aims to enhance local capabilities in managing and maintaining water supply infrastructure. The training program lasted a little over three weeks and encompassed a range of essential topics, including: 💧 Flow and Water Pressure Control 💧 Pipe and Meter Installation 💧 Leakage Management Strategies 💧 Non-Revenue Water Management 💧 Water Treatment Processes 💧 Plant Operations from Urban to Remote Islands This training marks the second cohort for 2024 and is part of the ongoing project, Capacity Enhancement Project for SWA in cooperation with Okinawa Phase 2 (CEPSOII Project). 🌏November 5, is 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙𝙏𝙨𝙪𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙞𝘼𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝘿𝙖𝙮 that was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015 to promote tsunami countermeasures. Since the 1990s, JICA has worked on several #seawall construction projects around the entire island of Male’, the capital of the Maldives, completing it in 2002. Thanks to this, Male’ recorded zero casualties during the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, and reports hailed that “Japan’s seawall saved Male’ Island.” JICA is promoting pre-disaster investment around the world that can contribute to reduce future economic and human losses in developing countries. #WorldTsunamiAwarenessDay #TSUNAMI #disasterriskreduction #Maldives

📍【Malaysia】A total of 16 participants from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Timor-Leste attended the Third Country Training Program (TCTP) on Occupational Safety and Health Management starting on October 14. This course is the cooperation program between Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and JICA, and the course was organized by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), Ministry of Human Resources Malaysia. On the second day of the training, participants went to visit DOSH Headquarters in Putrajaya and were warmly welcomed by Ir. Haji Mohd, the Director General of DOSH Malaysia. On 23 October 2024, 3 Japanese lecturers – Mr. Nagae Yutaka, Mr. Ogura Hideki, and Mr. Maekawa Takao, were dispatched to deliver lectures on occupational safety and health management in Japan context. Mr. Nagae who was attached to CIAST（Centre for Instructor and Advanced Skill Training of Malaysia）delivered a lecture on the working environment in Japan, and Mr. Ogura who was the JOCV dispatched to JMTI （Japan-Malaysian Technical Institute）delivered lectures about safety management in semiconductor industry in Japan. The participants were all delighted and eager to learn and gain experience in occupational safety and health management in Malaysia and Japan context.

📌 JICA Staff Blog In Sierra Leone, 1,200 pregnant women and 27,000 infants losing their lives for a year. The spread of infectious diseases also claim thousands of lives every year. Many of these lives could be saved if the adequate health system was in place. The 16th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity ( #COP16 ) in Cali, Colombia, is now in its second week, and the discussions among countries around the world toward the adoption of a resolution are reaching their final stage. In parallel with the plenary sessions inside the conference building, various organizations are holding side events in a number of temporarily set up tents. The International Development Finance Club（IDFC）, an organization of 26 public development finance institutions, held an event titled “How Public Development Banks can align with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework?” on October 30. Speakers included the President of the Bancoldex and the President of the Development Bank of Southern Africa, who emphasized the need for all member institutions to work together to accelerate the mobilization of various funds for the realization of Nature Positive. JICA, a member of the IDFC, introduced an example of its forest data support project in India. JICA emphasized the importance of comprehensive and reliable data development and utilization, which is indispensable for mobilizing funds.

🌏𝙊𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙗𝙚𝙧 𝟯𝟭 𝙞𝙨 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙 𝘾𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝘿𝙖𝙮🏙️ Under the Paris Agreement adopted in 2015, efforts to tackle with climate change are advancing across the world. Many countries have declared their intention to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and other target years, and are promoting initiatives in the fields of energy, industry, agriculture and forestry, etc. JICA is supporting developing countries in promoting such initiatives. In Bangkok, Thailand, JICA has formulated Climate Change Master Plan including greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets, as well as developing capacities for monitoring its progress. As a seasoned special needs educator from Japan, with years of experience teaching special needs classes, he brings valuable knowledge and expertise to his role supporting children with disabilities. His individualized approach and use of handmade learning materials have been instrumental in engaging students and helping them reach their full potential. He creates materials using locally available resources and tailors his teaching methods to each child's unique needs and pace. His innovative approach has not only captivated the children but also impressed his fellow teachers, who have expressed interest in learning how to create similar supplementary materials.
