Corteria Pharmaceuticals' lead asset, aimed at treating worsening heart failure, is now advancing to clinical trials! 🔬

We are delighted to share that our portfolio company, focused on the development of transformative therapies for heart failure and obesity, today announced that it has initiated a Phase 1 study to evaluate its first-in-class corticotropin-releasing hormone receptor in both healthy volunteers and patients with chronic heart failure.

After preclinical studies that showed that Corteria's lead asset has demonstrated substantial protective effects and functional improvement in the heart, vasculature, and kidneys, this new step is another great achievement for Corteria.

The challenge of discovering new treatments is substantial, given that 60 million people are living with heart failure.

2️⃣  Plus, the company has been reviewed and published by Science Translational Medicine. The paper introduces new data that, for the first time, establish CIC-1 chloride channel inhibition as a novel and highly translational therapeutic approach to improve persistent and severe symptoms in patients with Myasthenia Gravis.

New milestone for HI-Bio! 🚀

Our clinical-stage portfolio company today announced that the U.S. FDA has granted Orphan Drug Designation for Felzartamab for the Treatment of Antibody-Mediated Rejection (AMR) in Kidney Transplant Recipients.

AMR is a major cause of kidney transplant failure, with late AMR affecting approximately 23,000 patients total in the U.S. There is no effective treatment for AMR and patient options are highly limited.

HI-Bio is committed to advancing felzartamab across a spectrum of immune-mediated diseases, including IgA nephropathy, lupus nephritis and primary membranous nephropathy.

This news comes 5 months after being granted Breakthrough Therapy by the FDA for Felzartamab in primary membranous nephropathy (PMN).
