The International Climate Finance Accelerator (ICFA) supports emerging fund managers focused on climate action to develop the climate finance leaders of tomorrow.

As part of our multi-year programme, we offer technical and financial support to the impact fund managers in their start-up phase who have strong, innovative climate investment strategies and are in process of fundraising.

These fund managers are selected using a highly competitive process and, once selected, fund managers receive access to expert trainings, coaching, access to working capital, and much more.

To date, supported fund managers have secured commitments amounting to more than USD450m across 15 vehicles and are projected to raise more than USD4bn across 27 vehicles.

Expansion of the International Climate Finance Accelerator (ICFA) to include the International Social Finance Accelerator (ISFA)

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, through its Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Xavier Bettel, Minister of Finance, Gilles Roth, and Minister of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, Serge Wilmes, recently announced the expansion of the International Climate Finance Accelerator (ICFA) to include a new programme: the International Social Finance Accelerator (ISFA).  👉https://lnkd.in/eJDX-aNm

Minister Gilles Roth emphasised: "I am proud to extend our successful Climate Finance Accelerator and enrich it with a social finance acceleration programme. This dual focus underlines our dedication to 'go beyond green' and leverage our partnerships with the expertise of the Luxembourg financial centre to help direct financial flows towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals."

Stephan Peters, CEO at the ICFA, expressed that "by empowering emerging fund managers in climate or social finance, we can mobilise capital to make a significant contribution to a more sustainable world. We look forward to continue advancing this mission with the Government of Luxembourg and our private sector partners."

Established in 2018, the ICFA is a public-private partnership set up by twelve private entities of the Luxembourg financial sector, the Luxembourg Ministry of Finance (MFIN) and the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity (MECB).

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade (MFA) now joins the partnership, extending the programme's commitment to social impact finance, with a focus on economic development to promote sustainable economic growth, to reduce poverty, and to improve living standards in the least developed countries.

Stephan Peters further elaborated: "Across these acceleration programmes, our initiative now seeks to contribute positively to all 17 Sustainable Development Goals. We aim to mobilize capital toward innovative financial instruments and, through our presence in Luxembourg, further strengthen the financial centre's expertise and competences around sustainable and impact finance. "

🏆 Outrigger Impact is an innovative blue economy impact solution that provides capital and capacity to projects in Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The blended finance solution Outrigger has developed addresses the unique climate, environmental, social and economic challenges that the SIDS face by identifying successful business models, transferring expertise and aggregating projects to scale them up and crowd in additional private capital.

🏆 Scalar International exists to unlock institutional funding to support the emergence of first-tier, Indigenous, and women-owned businesses that contribute towards a sustainable and inclusive future through clean energy and digital technologies. We are delighted to announce that Symbiotics Investments and Triple Jump have become the latest investors to back our innovative financing platform Spark Energy Services.

With a USD 9m senior debt agreement now secured - USD 5m from Symbiotics through a green bond and USD 4m from Triple Jump’s Energy Entrepreneurs Growth Fund (EEGF) - Spark is poised to make an even greater impact on Sub-Saharan Africa’s commercial and industrial sector.

The senior debt tops up an existing USD 10m junior debt commitment from European Investment Bank (EIB), and nearly USD 10m in investments from UK government-funded FSD Africa Investments, Jaltech Fund Management, Fortis Green Renewables and Camco. 

This investment will help Spark to scale energy efficiency and captive renewable energy projects, empowering businesses, especially SMEs, to achieve their low-carbon growth goals and boost their competitiveness globally.

Camco is pleased to announce the release of its 2023 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭, showcasing the achievements of Camco-managed funds and our reinforced commitment to sustainable development.

The report details Camco’s efforts in driving transformational change in the world’s emerging markets as a climate and impact fund manager.

Key 2023 achievements:
➡  Green Climate Fund commitment: Secured a USD 50m junior equity allocation for REPP 2, Camco’s USD 250m private debt fund aimed at renewable energy investments in Africa.
➡  Norad - Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation funding: Obtained USD 5m from Norad for a technical assistance facility to support REPP 2, designed to overcome barriers to renewable energy investments in Africa.
➡  Spark Energy Services: Successfully closed the initial equity round, securing nearly USD 25m in commitments to support renewables and energy efficiency in Africa’s commercial and industrial sector.
➡  Strategic partnerships: Partnered with the Pacific Community-SPC to enhance sustainable development in the Pacific region.
➡  Industry recognition: Featured in the ImpactAssets 50™ database for the third consecutive year.
➡  Policy influence: Camco CEO Geoff Sinclair invited to advise on UK parliamentary policy for UK-African partnerships in energy transitions.

Impact and progress - Camco’s cumulative impact to 31 December 2023 includes:
➡  309MW of renewable energy capacity funded
➡  1.6 million people provided with new or improved electricity connections
➡  11,900 jobs created, including 2,500 for women
➡  152,000 tCO2e mitigated through Camco-managed REPP and Spark
