ID.me continues to advocate for digital equity—especially for historically underserved communities previously left behind by algorithm-only methods of verification.

From 2016 until 2022, only 23.9% of Puerto Rican individuals were able to verify their identities at one government agency. Verification methods that are strictly dependent on online records struggle to verify individuals with a small digital footprint or lack of financial records. With ID.me, successful verification rates in Puerto Rico jumped to 78.6%—a three-fold increase. 

This dramatic improvement in verification rates demonstrates ID.me's commitment to inclusivity. We pioneered new methods of secure verification, like video chat, that enable us to verify individuals that credit bureaus and data brokers would otherwise leave behind. Our verification and authentication interfaces are available in 22 languages and offer support through video chat in 240 languages. Plus, our staff that builds out these interfaces have undergone rigorous accessibility training to emphasize the importance of equity in the development process.

We're thrilled to announce a major milestone at ID.me — 50 million users have a verified IAL2 identity credential, providing rapid access to government agencies, healthcare organizations, banking and consumer brands via the ID.me Digital Wallet.

Once users have created an ID.me login and verified their identity, they are fast-tracked to easily access services across hundreds of government, private sector, and non-profit organizations.  Similar to payment wallets, ID.me’s identity wallet allows registered users to simply login and consent to release their previously verified identity to access services at multiple agencies.  This approach dramatically reduces user friction while providing important security benefits.
