Are you ready for the Black Friday shopping season? This year, the Black Friday shopping season is projected to inject R88bn into the South African economy across wholesale, retail and fuel sectors amid surging consumer interest. Accoridng to Capital Connect , total Black Friday direct retail gains will amount to R22.08bn, with most gains coming from consumers buying necessities rather than luxuries. Two major beneficiaries of Black Friday will be the wholesale sector as a major supplier to retailers + fuel sales due to the heightened level of deliveries of goods to retailers and consumers. Data shows that total retail sales are forecasted to be 19% higher in November and 48% higher in December than they were, on average, for the first 10 months of the year. What is the latest directive issued by the SARB restricting Instant EFT payments? Recently, the SARB issued a new directive restricting all electronic funds transfer (EFT) credit payment instructions in South Africa in an effort to combat fraud. Under this new directive, "no person may issue an EFT credit payment instruction on behalf of a payer in the NPS unless that person is registered with the SARB and has obtained informed consent of the payer prior to issuing the instruction." We're happy to share that as a registered TPPP and SO, Stitch meets all existing requirements set forth by the SARB and continue to take payments security and fraud prevention very seriously. We also work with major banks in South Africa to offer alternative methods such as direct bank APIs where possible. Last year, we wrote about the directive when it was still in its early phases. Since then, we have been part of discussions around this directive alongside the SARB.
