We’re on a quest for a lost treasure. One that’s been missing 17 years.

The South Island Kōkako, one of New Zealand’s most remarkable and rare birds, hasn’t been spotted since 2007. It’s one of the world’s 25 most wanted lost species according to the Search for Lost Species, led by our friends at Re:wild.

We’re not investigators, and we’re definitely not statisticians, but things missing for 17 years are often not found…

So when we heard that recent expeditions in New Zealand’s South Island captured recordings of unidentified birds—with distinct calls sounding like that of a Kōkako—we flew straight to LinkedIn to tell you.

Now, additional recorders and camera-traps have been set up as part of a long-term surveillance program to rediscover this elusive bird. And just last month, a local New Zealander reported seeing a bird, matching the description of South Island Kōkako, gliding overhead in the Rowallan Forest. 

Even after 17 years, we’re hopeful that the South Island Kōkako still survives. And we’re excited to come alongside Re:wild in their quest to rediscover the world's most wanted lost species, including the Kōkako. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/dCAQYPk6

We’ve been trying to think of a crazy way to announce Adrian Nyman as our new Chief Design Officer.

We designed billboards, wrote a jingle, and even drafted a storyboard for a Super Bowl commercial. But why do any of that super outlandish stuff, when you can do the most exciting thing of all? A LinkedIn post.

He will lead our product design and strategy teams, calling on more than 20 years of expertise in the footwear and apparel industries. Previously, Adrian worked at the likes of Nike and Hurley, and most recently worked as Chief Brand Officer for electric vehicle innovator ARRIVAL where he applied his personal passion for sustainable products.

What does it even mean to be 'green'?

Fair question. And you're not the only one wondering. (Spoiler: this post will not answer the question, because frankly, we aren't certain either.)

We know it's good to be 'green'... but we also know 'green' doesn't mean much at all to anyone anymore. (That's semantic satiation — a psychological phenomenon in which repetition causes a word or phrase to temporarily lose meaning. And ironically, 'semantic satiation' also doesn't mean much to anyone.) 

Our sustainability lead Aileen Lerch chatted with Bloomberg Law about the need for updated guidelines for words like "green," "sustainable," and "circular" as more and more businesses incorporate impact into their work.

We know a person that is such a people person, that “people” is literally in this person’s title.

We’re talking about Jennifer Roback, of course. Jen is our Director of People and Experience, where she works to connect the dots between our people, resources, and strategic objectives.* (*Corporate-speak for: she makes sure we get stuff done.)

Jen also helps lead our Women’s Mentorship Program, where she coaches other women in our workforce on leadership, personal brand, networking, and negotiation. One mentee said: “Jen’s mentorship helped me negotiate a killer deal on a Facebook marketplace find… oh, and it’s helped at work, too.”

If you’ve worked with Jen, or with her self-proclaimed alter ego, “Janelle,” then you can attest to just how clever, motivating, and kind she is. She always makes coworkers feel great about the work they’re doing – even if it’s just writing silly little LinkedIn posts.

…  Safe to say that AI won’t replace real creatives any time soon.

That’s why we’re seeking a copy and content strategy director to help evolve our brand voice, and develop strategies for a variety of channels. (Including, but not limited to: web, emails, retail, video scripts, and office slam poetry sessions.) This new hire will manage a team of fellow word nerds, which will certainly make for enriching debates about the merit of the Oxford comma.
