We’re excited to share that Thorne HealthTech has launched a new enterprise named Thorne Ventures to advance the company’s focus on innovation and science-backed wellness breakthroughs. Thorne Ventures will be led by legacy Thorne CEO, Paul Jacobson. 

Thorne’s core personalized supplement and testing unit will be led by healthcare industry and consumer products veteran, Colin Watts, who brings 30+ years of experience having served as CEO of The Vitamin Shoppe, President of Weight Watchers Health Solutions, Chief Innovation Officer at Walgreens, and Global Operating President of McNeil Nutritionals and Consumer Healthcare, a division of Johnson & Johnson alongside Chief Operating Officer, Tom McKenna, who has been with Thorne for 14 years.

The New York Times recently wrote about the devastating effects of repetitive brain impacts on young athletes. The article cited a study from Boston University, in which researchers examined the brains of 152 contact sports athletes and diagnosed more than 40 percent of them with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
 
Earlier this year, Thorne shared positive findings from its collaborative clinical trial with Mayo Clinic and HealthTech Connex Inc. that evaluated the effects of Thorne’s SynaQuell nutritional supplement on brain function and brain structure in Junior A ice hockey players.
 
The data from this trial was the first of its kind to demonstrate the use of SynaQuell as a nutritional supplement for supporting brain health in athletes engaged in a contact sport.*

Thorne employees in our Summerville South Carolina facility participated in a stuffed toy drive, partnering with the Lowcountry Orphan Relief, an organization that provides support services and aid to meet the needs of children in the lowcountry of South Carolina.

Thorne employees collected over 115 stuffed toys for local children through this event and delivered them to the organization last week. 

During the #holiday season, Thorne partners with several organizations in the local Charleston area, and we’re proud to partner with Lowcountry Orphan Relief, an organization that believes that no child should be without the basic necessities in life, regardless of their life circumstances.

Last week, over 30 Thorne employees in our Summerville, South Carolina location volunteered for Trident United Way “Days of Caring” event.
 
Trident United Way  is committed to creating measurable community transformation through collective impact in education, financial stability, and health in the South Carolina Tri-County area.
 
Through the Bags of Joy volunteer opportunity, Thorne employees kitted 500 bags of hygiene supplies to bring joy to homeless members of the community during the upcoming holiday season.
 
Thorne has worked with Trident United Way since 2018, and is proud to partner with an organization whose mission is so closely linked to ours, as they strive to create a healthier community and empower people to live and participate in environments that promote good #health.
