They provide outstanding support to the entire hospital, even when little information is given to them before a change is made. Their teamwork and willingness to collaborate with end users and other areas of the health system help solve issues before they are a problem. With the foresight to predict when something will not work on this campus, their problem-solving makes a resolution quick and easy. They are knowledgeable enough about clinical practices to provide user workflow support and help streamline processes to improve the technical environment in which our hospital runs. By having them on-site, we can work as a team to resolve issues or improve technology. When assigned any task, they demonstrate great follow-through. Mayo, DHA, FACHE , president and CEO of Baptist Health, was once again named to Florida Trend magazine’s “Florida 500” list of the state’s 500 most influential business leaders across 60 sectors. This is the third consecutive year he has featured on the prestigious list. The publication uses broad economic categories from the U.S. Department of Commerce to compile the list, with the number of honorees in each category being roughly proportional to that category’s share of the state’s gross domestic product. Dr. Mayo was among 34 honorees in the “Life Sciences” category. “It’s humbling to be included alongside so many incredible leaders across Florida,” said Dr. Mayo, who was also recognized earlier this year as one of “86 Great Healthcare Leaders to Know” by Becker’s Hospital Review. “I’m lucky to work with a dedicated team that is all about making a real difference in the communities where we live and work.” Congratulations to Dr. Mayo on this well-deserved recognition. ADVANCING CARDIAC CARE: Baptist Health is the first health system in the state to have performed the first commercial Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Replacement procedure, undertaken by the expert team of cardiologists Ruby Satpathy, MD, Siddharth Wayangankar , MD, and Alejandro Peña, MD. In doing so, Baptist Health became the only heart program in Florida with access to both revolutionary technologies – Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Repair and Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Replacement. In addition to treating other valves like aortic and mitral valves, the introduction of this procedure provides more options for patients with tricuspid valve disease who for decades have had no surgical or minimally invasive treatment options. The two procedures, Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Repair and Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Replacement, offer individualized approaches to address tricuspid regurgitation without the need for open heart surgery. Through the repair procedure, a catheter-guided device (clip) is placed in the tricuspid valve, helping it to close properly and preventing blood leakage. The replacement procedure involves placing a new valve within the faulty tricuspid valve to restore normal blood flow. Both methods are designed to significantly reduce symptoms and improve a patient’s quality of life, while significantly reducing recovery times and hospital stays compared with traditional open surgery. These procedures represent a remarkable achievement for the Structural Heart Program at Baptist Health. Structural heart procedures began at Baptist Jacksonville in 2015, and the program has seen many “firsts” since its inception. The health system is at the forefront of innovations with access to cutting edge technologies via multiple international research trials for Structural Heart devices. This Veterans Day, we honor Aracelly Brito, a Navy Reservist and healthcare leader who embodies the spirit of service to both her community and country. ❤️🇺🇸 A native of Ecuador, Aracelly immigrated to the U.S. when she was eight years old. After graduating from high school in Stamford, Connecticut, she attended nursing school until a Navy recruiter introduced her to an alternative career path. “I felt like I needed more of a challenge, and joining the military gave me that opportunity,” she said. “The Navy medical field was overmanned at that time, so I was offered a position in logistics.” According to the Navy, logistics specialists are responsible for operating financial accounting systems and managing inventories of repair parts and general supplies that support ships, squadrons and shore-based activities. During her entire active-duty career, Aracelly was attached to an aviation squadron at Naval Air Station Jacksonville that was deployed to Djibouti, Africa, and Okinawa, Japan, multiple times. “That experience helped me build inner strength and to feel part of something bigger than myself,” she said. After becoming an officer, Aracelly realized that health care administration was where her true passion lies. “I started researching civilian opportunities and came across one as a practice manager with Baptist Primary Care,” she said. “There’s a lot the Navy teaches you that can be applied in the health care field, and certainly scheduling a patient involves a lot of logistics.” In 2016, she decided to join the Navy Reserves, where she serves one weekend a month and two weeks a year as a health care administrator at Naval Hospital Jacksonville. In 2020, after managing Baptist Primary Care’s Roosevelt location, Aracelly was promoted to her current director position. In August 2021, she was one of 17 young professionals selected to the JAX Chamber’s Emerging Leaders Fellowship program, which connects talented up-and-comers with prominent community leaders and each other. In 2023, Aracelly built on her JAX Chamber experience by being selected to Baptist Health’s year-long Emerging Leaders program. Now in her fifth year in the Navy Reserves, Aracelly is considered “in zone” for her next promotion to lieutenant commander. She plans to stay in the Reserves until she reaches the 20-year retirement mark. Thank you, Aracelly, for your service, dedication, and the impact you make every day.
