With the upcoming GenAI competition and the reliance on internet-derived source data, it is crucial to recognize the potential consequences of this unregulated environment. The competition's unchecked nature raises concerns that data providers, seeking to undermine the competition, might restrict the information they make publicly available on the internet. This, in turn, could result in future Language Models (LLMs) being less informative and less intelligent. Such a scenario would leave us all less informed due to the diminished input from GenAI. To counter this looming trend, it is imperative to implement regulations for GenAI, advocating for a universal approach where all models share their source data. Establishing a regulatory body could ensure that all LLMs have equal access to the same source data. Failing to address this issue may usher in an era marked by a decline in meaningful research, innovation, and creativity for humanity—a digital dark ages.
